I just tell them I'd like to setup a cancellation date, and *poof* instant rate reduction. The only time I was rejected was when I called BEFORE my last rate reduction had expired. They said they couldn't just roll me into a new one. So I had to wait a few weeks and call back. I've been a Comcast subscriber for 5+ years (because of a brief stint with RCN) and I currently enjoy the $99 triple play pricing package.
On a price basis I love Comcast VOIP. If I didn't get an actual discount on my cable/internet bill for having it, I would consider it terrible. If they didn't offer me the triple play promo price I would switch my voice line back to POTS with Verizon. VOIP is terrible, and only worth it if its free. 50% of the time you call my phone it tells you it's been disconnected. If you call RIGHT back it goes through, but for people who don't know that, well, it sucks. | |

| Re: We'll see what happens when the promo prices expire The only issue that I've had with DSLX is SBC/at&t's lines... since I'm at ~12k' I'm only rated for 3Mbps/512kbps. Since I use it for work (from home - VPN/X-11/Remote Desktop, etc), I need something _really_ stable. I had the service capped at 2498kbps/512kbps, as at&t's lines would cause resets during the day. Latency is low, and the service is stable, and the price is good (same as at&t's, but without PPPoE, and the typical outsourced support). I _really_ doubt that at&t would allow me to request speed caps on my line, and do it within 1 business day! DSLX's bad side was when they attempted to play Internic and hijack 404 with a namefinder service on DNS. I would have found another ISP if they didn't remove it. | |

The beginning of last year, I received a flyer because I had Directv, Time Warner offered me Digital cable with one premium channel, with one DVR, and a second digital box, Road Runner, and Digital phone, for $99 a month, guaranteed for 18 months. If I read the current prices, that should be about $150 a month normally. If they don't offer to extend it, I will cancel the cable and go back to Directv (and get less picture loss that I did with Time Warner!!!). I will keep the Road Runner and Digital phone, I have no complaints about either of those. Since we have Embarq for the local phone company, they just cant come close to Time Warner in price. | |

In the long run, it won't be worth the short term savings. Companies just hope to grab those less informed consumers that say "ooo...low prices...I'm in!" and don't question what strings are attached, the quality of service, etc. -- Please use all available doors...you have 33 to choose from. | |

That is very true if you are one who must have the latest and greatest. Those who just want the best price may or may not be better off with a contract, depending on what happens if the market falls out. One example, several folks here have lifetime cellphone contracts, I think it just went up to about $16 a month because of the change to digital, but the price is still about the same per month as it was 8 years ago. -- I am not lost, I find myself every time. | |

| I have triple play Had it with Cox - they over charge for certain things, but I loved the service.
About to have it with TWC when I move next month.
For me it's not really about price, it's about convenience. Dealing with one person rather than multiple companies is definitely a plus. Additionally, I don't have to give TWC or Cox a credit card for anything if I don't want to, they send me a bill and I pay it however I see fit. | |

| What's the point If a lot of people are like us, using cell phones, why waste money for a dumb VOIP when you use you cell for everything.
Besides, it's VOIP not exactly something you can count when it's being backed up by flaky HSI that you don't know how bad it will get when it rains outside. And cell phones are bad enough
Now if they're like Adelphia which gave you internet for $33 if you bought analog+digital, then sure I'd sign up too | |

| People aren't dumb. They see that you only get the cheap advertised price for 3-6 months. Then to top it off cable companies are known for raising their prices regularly. Triple play via cable is no deal. Now the phone company might have better odds, but their technology is more limited and isn't anywhere near as available. But if the telcos do offer a decent triple play and allow you to renew the intro price indefinitely like dsl, they will win. | |

I find it hard to believe that the other 85% can actually FIND non-TriplePlay pricing. I've searched Comcast prices for just an internet connection, nothing else included, and it's not exactly easy to locate that info.
Now I'd be more likely to believe this if the headline read: "Only 15% Sign Up For Triple Play, The Other 85% End Up With It By Accident". | |

My personal favorite is the "savings". If you order every freaking phone feature then yeah, you might save a few bucks a month, but if you are a sane consumer and don't bite on the ups and extras (who really needs all that crap anyway?) and your phone bill is more like $20 a month, their "savings" ends up costing you 50% more than what you are paying now, plus you have to buy more services (like a digital premium package) to even be eligible.
Savings my ass. The cable companies have never given anyone anything. They learned their lessons well from the pre-breakup Bell pricing schedules. Why anyone puts up with this is a study for some business school thesis. -- Toolmaster of La Grange. | |

| I just signed up for Comcast Digital Phone I just signed up for Comcast Digital Phone, and I already have my Internet with them, as well as my Cable TV, but I am not truly a Comcast Triple Play Customer, as my Cable TV is the Basic Basic (for lack of a better term) for $15 a month. In fact, when I signed up for the phone, the sales rep offered me the triple play for $33 a month for one year. I admit it was tempting, but we really don't watch much TV, so I was thinking we really don't need the more expensive Cable TV. While I'd actually be saving money for the next 12 months, eventually we'd be paying quite a bit more than we need to. I have the feeling that once I abandon the Basic Basic package, I can never go back to it, because Comcast doesn't actually offer it.
