The FCC today
unanimously agreed to a notice of inquiry exploring whether regulation was needed to prevent ISPs from blocking or degrading services that compete with their own content offerings.
"History shows that notices of inquiries like this often disappear into the regulatory dustbin," says Commissioner Michael Copps of the process (aka expect nothing to happen). The FCC also took the expected step of classifying wireless broadband
as an information service (just like they did with BPL, DSL and cable) to limit regulation -- a very dirty word at the currently
"hands-off" focused FCC.
