At an ICANN meeting in Lisbon, the US Department of Homeland Security made it clear that it has requested a
"master key" for the DNS root zone,
reports Heise Online (via
Slashdot). The key would allow authorities to track DNS Security Extensions (DNSSec) all the way back to the servers that represent the name system's root zone on the Internet. Handing such authority over to the
IANA & ICANN will likely further anger those who already believe ICANN is
too focused on American interests.
