| Re: every speed test gets worse.. and im not running anything.. I used to have fairpoint and besides the usual weekly service outage the speeds were so-so. I got about the full 1.5Mbps I had when it was working, it took them over 2 weeks to do that because I had a bad line and they could not bother to fix it in a timely manner. Then the hard part came around, getting credit for the time. I did eventually but they never honored their first 6 months for $22.95 plan, they kept charging me the full $45 for the pathetic 1.5Mbps link and every month I had to call to get it corrected. And this is not the half of it. Case in point I think anyone I know who has Verizon that gets switched to this crap service will switch to Time Warner if they can because it will be the same price for 4x the speed. | |

| its nothing to do with speeds and everything to do with the Union knowing that in August 2008 Fairpoint is not going to give in to the Union's demands the way Verizon has always rolled.
For example, Fairpoint is not going to pay for 3 hours minimum of OT everytime a tech works past 5PM.

| You have your facts wrong.
There is no minimum 3 hours OT past 5pm.
You have never read the contract, so please don't quote it.
The only reason Fairpoint says they will honor the existing contract is because they have to by law. They will layoff hundreds of employees after the existing contract expires.

| Re: its nothing to do with speeds I was just throwing out an example as to why the Union opposes the sale. I don't use Verizon so it doesn't affect me either way.
So what is it 2 hours?
If anything though, with the HUGE amounts of New England Verizon employees transferring to Massaschusettes I would think that they will be hiring for quite some time and not laying off.

| Re: its nothing to do with speeds Where are you getting your facts from? There is no minimum OT period. There is also no large transfer of employees to Massachusetts. Yes, some have gone, but not many. Verizon is not letting employees move. The employees are part of the sale. You obviously don't work union and don't understand. | |

@verizon.net | there is no minimum amount of OT required after 5pm!
The only time there is a minimum is when there is a call out when you are home at night or on the weekends..

| (Un)Fairpoint I am an ex-employee of Fairpoint's Maine operations. I have been involved with the Maine Public Advocate's Office on several issues regarding Fairpoint. I encourage anyone with an interest in the Verizon to Fairpoint sale to read the on-line posting of Randy Barber's testimony to the Vermont Public Utilities Commission. I am also an ex-customer of Fairpoint, but unfortunately a current customer of Verizon. I live in a small town and have DSL and phone service (most of the time), unless there is a high wind. Speaking of high winds, that's what any claims made by the Fairpoint Management amount to. I am a recovering Fairpoint accountant, and I can assure you the way they structure the Management Fees from the mothership to the RLEC's is not in the best interest of rural customers or the states they reside in. The Maine PUC wrote me off as a disgruntled ex-employee a few years back, but the Public Advocate's Office listened to what I had to say during a Fairpoint rate case. The PUC basically rubber-stamped the deal Fairpoint wanted, and sure enough, the picture of the future Fairpoint painted back then is nothing like the reality of today. After Fairpoint bought out the RLEC I worked for there was a honeymoon period of about two years. Then they liquidated the over-funded pension (I wonder where the over-funded part went), and started getting rid of the older (higher paid) employees through various means. Looking back I can only say thank goodness I don't work for those #@&*%'s anymore, and I worry about the folks I know who still work for UnFairpoint, although there are fewer of the original employees there each year. It's a beautiful day in Maine and I am going canoeing, so long Fairpoint, hope your Verizon deal falls through. | |
