| Re: Turbo Taxed Turbo Tax returns are only as good as the information you put in (assuming you file AFTER they've updated their software with the latest changes).
It's not perfect, but I've used it for 6 years now, was always right on the money and i never was audited. | |

They could still "file" their taxes, print out the payment slip (I forgot form number), and wait to mail that until the 15th. Or do your taxes, write the check and don't mail it until the last day!

Simple: if you've overpaid (i.e., you're due a refund), you file as soon as you get all the requisite forms; if you've underpaid, you do the filling out of your taxes at any point between 01/30 and tax day, then file your forms on tax day. After all, why would you want to pay even one microsecond sooner than you had to? The two things don't go together when filing your tax return. You can file your return anytime, either on paper or electronically, and then pay at the last minute.
The easiest way is to file electronically EARLY, but set an automatic transfer of the money from your account to the IRS for the last or next to last day. All electronic filing programs allow this.
You can also file your return early on paper, and then mail the separate voucher with your check at the last minute.

Perfect examples are the ones that pay for the quick or accelerated refund options (which is just a step away from those "payday loans" places).

If you found a stock or a bond or a mutual fund THAT GOOD where you're loosing more than 0.000001 cent by not filing at the last moment, please do let me know! | |

| screw turbo tax this was my last year with them. I never use them for state tax as they want a fortune to take the same info you already paid to process for federal and replug into the state tax form. However this year, i was really sick for the past week, so Saturday i said screw it and processed my fed and state tax returns. My state form was "pending"......UNTIL TODAY - one day too late! Luckily, I followed up directly with PA yesterday and found that the form was actually accepted by PA the same day i gave it to TT, unfortunately I could not finalize through TT and did the payments myself outside TT.

I sent TT an e-mail requesting a refund of my state filing fee and they sent me an e-mail today telling me that they are refunding the $37 to my credit card. I'm shocked, frankly, but obviously pleased that they actually addressed my compliant on the first try.
And, btw, when i called PA about this on 4/17, i have to say i was extremely pleased with both the phone customer support (also only 4 minutes on hold on tax day), and also with how easy it was for me to go to the website to actually see my return (why couldnt TT see it??) and it took about 10 seconds to make an on-line payment. Kudos to a bureaucracy, for once!
now, if there are still problems that result from this (eg fines from any taxing agency), then all hell is gonna break loose, but for now, its all good. | |
