Helio Stops Offering EVDO/Wi-Fi 'Hybrid' No interest in $85 a month capped broadband? Wow. Friday Apr 20 2007 12:28 EDT Earthlink's money-losing MVNO Helio has stopped offering users a hybrid EVDO/Wi-Fi service because, apparently, nobody used it. As previously mentioned, the company was offering a PCMCIA card that allowed smart-switching dual access to Wi-Fi and rebranded EVDO networks, depending on what was available. The card was free, but users had to shell out $85 a month, and, as a user reminds us, the service was capped at 160MB per month. The service will be shut down May 8th, and users who paid past that date will be issued credits. |

Aye Curumba!Generally, excessive or abusive usage is characterized by monthly data usage of 160 megabytes or more.» MVNO EVDO and Wi-Fi via PCMCIAI'm glad Sprint has good data usuage terms for their EVDO card users.

Re: Aye Curumba! They better give people refunds for the data cards. I can't remember who, but someone bought back all the gear when they discontinued the service they offered.
» kb.helio.cust-serv.com/H ··· elio1284What happened to Hybrid? -The Hybrid will no longer be available through Helio. -Members will not be able to access the web via 3G or Boingo hotspots using the Hybrid as of May 8th, 2007 -Hybrid members are welcome to keep the Hybrid card at no additional charge. -Hybrid members will only be billed for their usage through May 7th. Since Hybrid service is billed in advance, a credit may be applied to your account, sent to you in the form of a check, or applied to your debit/credit card depending on your billing cycle, charges incurred, payments made and method of payment. -Instructions to uninstall the Hybrid software from your laptop are available in the User Guide in the Support section of Helio.com.

Don't forget, Helio runs over Sprint's EVDO network.
Lets see: Helio = Sprint EVDO + WiFi, $85/month, capped at 160MB/month Sprint = EVDO / no cap $60/month + cost of card

A more accurate statement would be.....no one is interested in Helio. Expect this crap service to go down the tubes.

At $2.00 per MB, no wonderMy god, what kind of moron would pay over 2.00 per MB. Even Verizon, with the 5GB cap, is less than .02 cents per MB.

PCMCIA Card released too early...They shouldn't have sold these, and focus mainly on cellphone products. Bad move on their part to screw customers over, but I doubt they had many card users.
Helio does seem to be f'ing up, but things may get better for the company a bit after the Ocean release.
