| yes.
You will be a brief boost when you start uploading to someone, but it doesn't last long.
Depending on how often your torrent client stops and startup uploads though you can exceed your normal upload speeds though since each time it goes to upload you'll get the boost. I've seen a sustained speed of slightly over 400 kbps with an upload speed of 364 kbps, but you won't get a sustained 1 (or 2) mbps upload speed.
The main difference now is that briefly going about your upload limit (364 or 764) won't kill your download speeds or affect your ping times. --

| Re: So? TWC in NYC just now upgraded to 10/512 officially for standard (12/768 for premium), I dont that will change anyones mind who was already planing to get, or has FIOS. For about a year TWC didnt compete at all with FIOS, even though an entire borough (NYC is made of 5 counties, called "boroughs") is covered in FIOS (Staten Island), and its available in a large quadrant of another borough (Bayside in Queens).
I thought TWC is in denial about FIOS, I think it still is. It seriously thinks that it can convince customers to like the TWC brand more than Verizon brand, regardless of anything else.

| Re: So? True but only in the very short term. It will have an impact with those users eventually. For example, the same FiOS pressure that is on Comcast is also on TWC who has been raising speeds. I'm in a FiOS area and our extreme tier has been getting a bump to 15/2 in FiOS markets. I just got my bump today. But also today, the adjoining TWC area that is outside of Verizon's service area (and in AT&Ts) got the bump too. It creates a domino effect. So while someone may not face FiOS, they may face TWC and a new 15/2 tier and have to respond. Then in another market that provider forces another provider to respond. The trick is getting the first provider to jump and over the last couple of years that pressure has come solely from FiOS. We saw Cablevision, Cox and Comcast all respond to those pressures raising speeds drastically. And those cable providers will bring pressure on AT&T and their U-Verse to do better than 6Mb. | |

While not necessarily an "OMFG" improvement, in their defense, this is probably geared more for people that are doing picture uploads, not archive or media (CD rips) uploads. For example, I could upload fifty 100KB JPEGs before hitting that 5MB back-off. Most people aren't uploading that many pictures at once. And, even if they are, the files uploaded might be significantly smaller. -- Everyday, thousands of new cars are delivered to their new owners with poorly-selected radio station presets.

| eh.. I still think it's nothing more than a stopgap measure. I have nightly slowdowns and daily disconnects, both happening at almost the exact same times every day/night. The only reason I'm with them is because they offer the cheapest fast net in the area, and it's not all that cheap..

| Looking good here!
Looking good here in Mendocino County in Northwestern California! We were recently transitioned from Adelphia to Comcast, I'm pretty impressed with the speeds, DSL (if we could get it) couldn't match that. I doubt we'll ever see fiber in this rural area, AT&T can't even get DSL to a lot of this county, with only Ukiah, Willits and Fort Bragg having it. Willits Online has Wireless Broadband in a lot of areas now, often in underserved places like Potter Valley and Laytonville, though it's much slower and more expensive than wired broadband. -- »www.gorail.org See MAJOR freight&passenger action@ the Galesburg, IL RailCam! »205.245.189.161:1100/ My soon to be employer,as an Asst.Conductor- »www.amtrak.com »www.modocrailroadacademy.com -Grad,Class of 2-07,woohoo!
