One required me to reboot my modem, and the other was an actual problem that lasted for a few hours in my neighborhood. The few times that I called customer service, the call was answered in a timely fashion and the tech had info about outages and scheduled upgrades. By far the best service that I've had from any telecom provider.

Pat yourself on the back Cox, as I have forgotten about the blocked port 25/80 now, and your service has been good.

dfrandinPremium join:2002-06-14 Las Vegas, NV | Yay Cox!! Having had Cox here in Las Vegas, since the transition from Prime Cable, about 6-7 years ago, I've had next to zero problems with them, and the few times I have had problems, the support was pretty good.. So, Yay Cox!!!
|
| | | Re: Yay Cox!! I moved from Sprint DSL to Cox Comunication because everyone raved about the newsgroup service.
Less than a year later I had to subscribe to a premium news service because Cox destroyed their newsgroup service.
When the month of May arrived last year, suddently I had no service from 4 in the afternoon until 8 or 9 at night.
I met all my neighbors and we all had the same problem, but discovered if we all telephone suport when an outage in analog, digital, or internet service went out. A truck would appear, and they could confirm the outage. It was late August when they were finally able to isolate and repair the line, bring service back to our Vegas neighborhood.
It was almost funny, as Several neighbors believed the TV and Internet outages was normal. The three neighbors had moved from smaller comunities in several different states, this was their first experence with Cable Service.
Since last August, digital TV service has been decent, but when an outage does occure or is planned, Cox never seems to post much on the status page.
Also the new temporary speed boost does not allow a user to document the slower delivered Internet speeds that is the norm after a few moments. It seems the speed boost last long enough to accomplish a speed test, and then degrades to less that speed advertised and paid to be delivered.
Customer service, Is mostly polite but not well informed. Yet they seem to be good for customers that have little Internet experience, but most customer service employees are not well equipped for the more experienced Internet user reporting a problem.

| | | | fiberguyMy views are my own.Premium join:2005-05-20 kudos:3 | Business rates do not always = SLA. Business prices are generally where they'd like to have prices and residential rates are cheaper, well, for several reasons - one being that most people couldn't afford OR WOULD afford the product. However, business is benefiting off the product and "typically" uses more of the service than residential.
Dial tone is dial tone, yet it's must more expensive for business as well and until recently used to be a measured rate service on top of the higher monthly dial tone charge.
SLA, when it comes to business, has never been automatically included just because it's a "business" account. -- "Complaining is the least path of resistance for the self-reitchous and lazy..."

| They've done it right Cox is doing everything right. In my market, the only competition is Embarq with DSL that is light years behind (I think they offer 5.0/768Kbps for their highest tier, while we get 12/1Mbps with PowerBoost), and we are still seeing speed increases. I have found the field techs to be friendly and helpful, have been contacted by people from the local office here when I complain about something, and Cox has had VERY high level representation on this board since before it was cool to do (i.e., the beginning). These guys know what they're doing. -- "Don't steal. The government hates competition." | |

| | Cox is "o.k." Ehh, I have no real complaints in my 4 years w/ Cox, but then again, I have no alternatives for HSI. I can't get DSL where I live, so Cox is the only option for me. Only thing I'd love is more upload, other than that, I can't say anything really negative, which in this day & age is a resounding endorsement... | |

| only one thing I'll get to that 'one thing' in a minute...
They've been pretty good here compared to the previous cable companies, and their internet service can't be beaten in the area... DSL is steady, but COX is so much faster for most people, the coverage is insanely larger, and the price isn't all that bad considering what you get (Most people go for the standard $40/month package 6-7/512)
I've had one bad experience calling them, only because that rep in question was so ignorant that it nearly drove me insane... he even asked how much RAM my computer had and I about lost it - I'd just finished explaining that everything was perfectly fine a day or two ago and that nothing had changed on my end... anyway, it got resolved after some work at the local cable office... upgrades...
They've been good though. Overall, they do their job well and the field techs have ALWAYS been awesome, esp. the one old dude who was out fixing a line once and said "I set up every single piece of wire up to where you are, and I will double check every point on it to make absolutely sure nothing's wrong..." ...they had my line fixed the same day a truck had knocked it down... within a couple hours in fact... The other nice thing? No contract. They simply signed me up again when I moved with ZERO hassle (small deposit though, whatever). Ma Bell wanted to sign me up with a phone just to get internet, a year contract, a bigger deposit, slower speeds, and confusing packages...
Go Cox. Keep rockin' | |

jsimmonsPremium,MVM join:2000-04-24 Falls Church, VA | I concur with the article After Cox took over the old delapidated Media General infrastructure in Northern Va and upgraded pretty much everything, its a top-notch operation. I've been very happy with HSI - which continues to improve in speed, value, and reliability. I even dumped Verizon in favor of Cox phone service. Very happy there too. I'm saving money.
Customer service has been good... Same day service on a reported outage that was determined to be premise related. Company approved engineers that participate on DSLR Cox forum and help users solve problems... Awesome, and a joy to work with.
The things I'd ding them on are almost too petty to mention.
