Qwest Offers EVDO Broadband Via the Sprint network... It appears that much like their cable competitors, Qwest will now be offering rebranded Sprint EVDO wireless broadband service to their customers. According to the company's press release, monthly plan prices start at $69.99 per month, plus $49.99 for the Qwest Mobile Broadband Card with a two-year commitment. The "unlimited" service is $80 -- but is rather limited according to RCR Wireless News, who says it has a 5GB monthly cap. Qwest users get $20 off any wireless broadband plan, but it's not entirely clear why most users wouldn't head directly to Sprint.

I don't think Qwest is positioning this as the end all be all of home broadband solutions, but the bundled price is competitive enough that a lot of people will take it as an addition to a bundle package. The usage cap is high enough for use as a secondary service, but obviously not high enough for use as the main internet option. This also makes Qwest the only service provider in their region with a bundle of phone,tv,dsl,wireless, and wireless broadband. I've had my Sprint card in addition to DSL at my house for about a year now, and I've never touched 5GB in a month yet. Obviously this service won't work for everyone, but why not have the option. | |

Albuquerque, NM | Re: Great move If I was to add their unlimited plan to what I have now with Qwest I would be paying about $260 (that includes all my taxes) a month for my phone with unlimited local and long distance, 7m/896k dsl, DirecTV with HD/DVR for 3tv's, 2 cell phones on a 500 minute shared plan free nights and weekends, and a wireless broadband card that has a 5GB cap per month. I think that's pretty damn good considering what I used to pay for all this crap. If I went through Sprint for my cell phones and broadband card I would pay about $130 just for the cell phones, so I figure it would save me about $20 a month to do it through Qwest. Granted like I said earlier it works in my situation, but if you need more than 5GB per month then probably not. | |

Minneapolis, MN | There's a $20 discount for those that have Qwest DSL, so for those people it may be cheaper to buy through Qwest instead of Sprint. If the bandwidth caps are an issue, you'd be better off with Sprint. | |
| | | | | Re: May as well get Sprint this is bull..why go with Qwest when you can go with Sprint directly? Also, if you go with Sprint's SERO plan, you can get their EVDO for $49.99 a month (and after taxes, it'll probably only come to $50-$51 a month; my bill is $50.90...I'm very pleased).
Plus, they let you do whatever the heck you want with your connection; just don't go hosting game servers or webpages (like you would want to, with the mediocre latency). | |
