DoubleClick purchase creates privacy and antitrust concerns

InfoWorld reports that "the U.S. Federal Trade Commision (FTC) is investigating Google’s proposed $3.1 billion purchase of DoubleClick" due to "concerns over privacy issues and the potential for anti-competitive practices." The privacy issues came to the forefront as a result of a complaint filed by the Electronic Privacy Information Center and the Center for Digital Democracy. The FTC is looking at all of the issues, but it’s the antitrust ones that are expected to pose the greater threat to the merger.

But I thought ...

google can do no wrong ?

Guess this bring to the forefront that every company that becomes to big can be in a position to abuse it's power.

hmmm......

I can understand this, but are they investigating "all" companies just as fairly? I can think of a few that are doing pretty much the same, and are not getting investigated...JMT

Re: I think

Isn't doubleclick known world over as a spy/or spam or a baddie, and is mostly blocked by any type of decent antispy?

It all depends on what your definition of a "spi/spam or baddie" is.

I think someone needs to read up on the history of DoubleClick.

Also, if Google is as you say it is, then why is my stock portfolio telling me something different.

I will bet you use Google too

It seems they balance that with doing something creepy and invasive.

Msft just bought an Ad company

Will the ftc look into Msft purchase of a DoubleClick rival?

I think Msft paid around $6 bill for that unknown company (Quantive).

Doubleclick are cheapskates...

And well to make this small, I can sure say doubleclick also partners itself with third party sites like questionmarket.com, who may have some reasons to invade people's privicy for surveys,

And that includes force feeding ads that repeat and not cycle or have permission to cycle the ads, it just flat out annoys the heck out of you,

And besides this ad company better not go for sites like Zango, or I will be veru upset on it.
