| | | Exactly! We flew into Oakland a few weeks ago and took Air Bart to the Coliseum so as to board Bart into San Francisco. The Coliseum station was full of hustlers asking for money and just waiting to grab either my wallet or my laptop. There is no security on Bart, the Bart police are worthless.
Only a fool would use their computer while riding Bart. As for Oakland, let it sink slowly into its own sewer and die. I will never again fly into Oakland, what a disgusting city.

| Not sure how widly it would be used. I've commuted on the Bart and one of the really nice things about it is that a lot of the routes you don't get Cell Phone reception. It was the only time during the day that it was quiet, no laptops, no phones, just people reading the paper. It was a nice change and I hope it stays that way and it seemed like the other people were in the same boat. -- [[Your signature here]] | |

ecoPremium join:2001-11-28 Wilmington, DE | ... Who in their right mind would pay what is essentially the same price for their home internet for something they'll use maybe 2 hours a day tops. BART is not like Amtrak, it's basically a glorified subway, it doesn't go very far.
Now $10 dollars a month is something I can maybe see people paying. I also don't understand how it's costing them $55 million dollars a year.

g0nepostalI Am The One Her Mom Warned Her About join:2001-03-23 Burlingame, CA | BART sucks anyway As a way of avoiding having to commute to downtown Oakland or San Francisco from either the East Bay or the Southern Peninsula, BART is ok. But on the whole, it sucks - it is badly maintained, has all kinds of people trying to panhandle or hustle you, and costs too much.
Having said that, I can see the use of Wi-Fi for certain users of BART - like the ones who commute from the Dublin/Pleasanton station all the way to downtown San Francisco. From what I understand, that's over an hour each way, or better than two hours a day. That's a lot of time to waste. So why not get some work done on an palm computer with Wi-Fi enabled?
Having said that, if BART is smart they will simply have the company offer the service for free or just add a dime to the ticket cost to cover the service. That way they'll get more riders on board.

| | Wow..... So I'm gonna pay $8 a day to ride the bart and then another $10 for wifi? Their stupid a$$es need to include the wifi in with the ridiculous price of riding bart. Not to mention the fact that when most users get on the bart, all of the seats are already taken.
Wake up BART people ! | |
|
| | BART's Competitor provides wifi for free BART thinks people will pay high prices for the service, while one of their competitors (AC Transit transbay buses) provides it for no extra charge.
