@gci.com | This is a great success story for Nintendo
Hopefully this is what Nintendo needed to realize they MUST have a broadband strategy for their next console. Hopefully they also put in extra content into their console ALA Xbox Live and also implement full HD support.

| Re: This is a great success story for Nintendo I would like to see DS/Revoulition compatable games.
Such as Mario Kart. Rev with oneline play, but DS users can vs via the net or wifi also.
I dont have a DS, but I would purchase one if they could make it as functional (somewhat) as my PDA. Would need Wi-Fi of cource (already has that), touch screen (has that), needs os like Pocket PC 2003 or along those lines with XL, and Word, and a video player. I use XL on the go A LOT, and if I could have that on a DS with dual screen, as well as play games, i'd be set! -- Do the Do!

| Troll, why dont you STFU and go elsewhere since you obviously have nothing to add to the conversation.
Nintendo make good games, they dont have to rely on the flashy graphics and poorly rendered polygon boobs to make their sales. They do this thing called "INNOVATION"
I know, it sounds crazy but giving us NEW and EXCITING ways to play our games e.g D-pad, Zapper, Dance pad, Analog Stick, Shoulder Buttons, Pause, Wireless, and now gyro will keep me coming back for the new stuff. Unlike their competiton who keep people frothing at the mouth because of a rehash of halo or GTA

| Re: Mistake Yeah, I'm happy for this but disappointed in the fact that I have to go to a store and download it temporarily. I'd rather just sit at home and play these demo's (via downloading them into memory until I shut it off)
Maybe Ninty should consider a "blank" DS cart to download demos to so you can play when you want?

| Re: Mistake It wouldnt have to be a blank cart per se. But they could make a cart that has a download interface with it and includes some volitile memory so as soon as the device is powered down it would lose all the data. This wouldnt help piracy at all since who wants to keep their DS on the entire time after they have loaded something? | |

@wotnoh.ameritech | Maybe they're going to add functionality to the USB WiFi adapter?

| Future Dev Hopefully, to get around the limitation of the system, they will begin to include an addon to games that will allow users of the system to download demos from some centralized server. As it stands now, without a wifi game in the system, there is no way to connect to the wifi network, if they simply included a "demo browser" on upcoming games I think they'd have great success. | |

1 edit | Nintendo Online Don't forget about what they did to Gamecube's online strategy... They released the online adapters for them, then never supported them and scrapped the idea of online gaming.

Er, the PSP is far behind the DS you know in overall sales currently. To put it bluntly, Nintendo has a lot to be happy about with their sales currently on the DS. (Insert obligatory Nintendo DS "It prints money photo.") That isn't to say the PSP won't do well or catch up in sales ever; it has a strong following and it should grow this coming year as Sony will (hopefully) push for more games on it instead of just movies. However, if Nintendo can keep this rage about the DS going and growing and move it on to the Revolution...

| Re: Nintendo Online said by odreian615 :the ds is wiping the floor with the psp Not exactly. Japan sales figures for 2005 show the PSP sold 2.5 million units while the Nintendo DS sold a little over 2.7 million. In Europe the PSP sold over 66k units and the DS sold over 84k. In the U.S. the PSP sold over 3.6 million units and the DS sold more than 2.8 million units (probably more as I don't have Dec. 05' numbers).
Considering the DS was released about five months before the PSP and Nintendo has a solid history in the mobile gaming market I would say that Sony didn't do too bad at all. The DS might be outselling the PSP, but it's nowhere near "wiping the floor" levels.
