Verizon today is celebrating their one-millionth FiOS customer with an entire website dedicated to the Bayer family of Massapequa, New York. The family even gets their own video, which treats them as if they've just won the lottery.

Verizon's goal is to reach 3-4 million FiOS customers by 2010. For perspective, Verizon reported 7.4 million total broadband connections at the end of the first quarter.

The Verizon policy blog reminds us that while the company serves a million FiOS cutsomers, their infrastructure passes some 6.8 million homes and businesses.

See our recent spotlight on Verizon FiOS, and check out our FiOS reviews.

quite an accomplishment

quite an accomplishment considering how long they have been around and how limited the foot print is.

If we could get an idea of how many homes they pass and how many customers maybe we can all finally make a determination if the uptake is worth the risk.

Can't use site from Solaris , what a Rip.

Re: quite an accomplishment

The article says 6.8 million. So around 14.7% uptake.

Agreed. It's like Fios makes people happy. And funny how they are your typical suburban, almost "made for tv" family. Guess this is who they are catering toward now isn't it? They are obviously getting something for doing this by the way.

Granted, if Verizon would come rescue me from my crappy Time Warner Cable cable and internet service, I'd be a bit happier, and less frustrated. But then again I'm not your typical suburbanite. I'm from NYC.

Money and Broadband.

Having them won't make you happy.

But not having them and trying to get something done will make you miserable!

You stand a better chance than my little corner of Verizon's foot print.

"Verizon's goal is to reach 3-4 million FiOS customers by 2010"

I'd love have it, but chances are probably slim...

Try having no chance in hell, my state is considered unprofitable by Verizon.

LOL ATT

@comcast.net

When will AT&T roll out their 1 million uverse website?

a)when they hire 960,000 more employees to sell it to
b)when hell freezes over or
c)when the copper comes out and fiber goes in?

your neighborhood has nothing to do with your fios picture quality. if you're having issues with your analogs (lower 49), then the problem's in your home.

This is awesome, if the reach here then I better start looking at getting that AppleTV or the DigiMatrix and IPTV, and forget about the widescreen iPhone or super iPod....

Verizon anything stinks no matter how much they try to pretty it up... I feel sorry for anyone who uses Verizon... Verizon never cares for their employees or their customers, and yet people just love to love the stinkfest company...

Bell, Macdonald, Vail and now Seidenberg.

This is what made America’s network the envy of the world for over 90 years and is once again fulfilling the manifest destiny of America being number one.

We have the Bell symbol, the symbol of excellence second to none.

From left to right we have Alexander Graham Bell, the inventor of the telephone and the founder of the first systems.

Second we have Theodore Vail, the man who knew the nation’s network was a natural monopoly and for it to succeed one company, a controlled monopoly, must be established, The Bell System is born.

Third we have Ivan Seidenberg, a man who started his telephone career with The Bell System in 1966 as a Splicer’s Helper, a sewer tech. He would pump out manholes and get dirty so the Splicer would not have to.

Fourth we have Angus Macdonald, a telephone lineman, who worked through the blizzard of 1888 to keep open the only long distance telephone circuits between New York and Boston. The lines remained open during the storm maintaining the only communication between the two cities.

Ivan Seidenberg took a great chance with his career and with the stockholder's money by deploying Fiber To The Premise. FTTN would have been the easy and safe way for him to go.

FiOS is still in the very early stages and those with eyes to see know that many years from now America will look back at today and say yes, Ivan belongs next to Bell and Vail.

TV service for FIOS Internet customers would be nice

Now if only Verizon would turn their attention to providing more of their Internet FIOS areas with TV service.

(A FIOS Internet customer without FIOS TV in our area for 19 months and counting)

What's so Ritzy? If it's not a drug infested project, right away they're rich?

Looks like my house, but I can't afford HDTV's and 3 or 4 STD's and all the extra costs.

I get mailings every week, red Verizon Polo shirt clad kids
walk around the 'hood on Saturdays pimping the TV service.

I yelled at a guy last night about needing a mid tier package. Amazing to believe part of the country does not speak Spanish, and La Conexión is of no use to me.

How about a La English package for $32.99?

bah, consider yourself lucky. I live in a rich area and parts of my city have had FIOS for nearly a year but there is no fiber even being laid in my neighborhood anytime soon. I wish i was stuck waiting on TV to come.

So move. :0) Just kidding.

But on a somewhat serious note, my wife has been looking at houses in surrounding neighborhoods and my first request is: Ask the real estate agent if the house is in a Verizon FIOS area. If not, leave immediately.
