| And they sold their email list to spam outfits
Just noticed too that allofmp3 sold their subscribers email list before shutting the site down.
I have an email dedicated to my allofmp3 account (thanks yahoo for unlimited secondary emails), and I received my first 2 spams to this address this morning...
I guess they wanted to make a few last dollars before shutting the site down. -- "Money and sex, storage and bandwidth: only too much is ever enough" Arno Penzias - Former Head of Bell Labs, and Nobel prizewinner

1 edit | Re: And they sold their email list to spam outfits The email I'm referring to is 16 characters long (before the @), has random characters in it (like numbers and non alpha numeric), so I doubt that a random generator would find this one. It was never posted anywhere, so it can't be found on any page on the internet.
But in any case, I find it suspicious that I never ever received a single spam on this email, that has been existing for a couple of years already, and I suddenly receive 2 spams a few days after allofmp3.com, who were the ONLY company knowing this email, go out of business. -- "Money and sex, storage and bandwidth: only too much is ever enough" Arno Penzias - Former Head of Bell Labs, and Nobel prizewinner

Thanks boss, but it keeps telling me they are unable to accept credit cards at this time. I was logged in, so try not to be a jackass next time. "Unfortunately credit card payment is not available at the moment. Please come back later or try another method of payment " Odd, because I went all the way through to the ChronoPay site before I posted. To check, I just tried it again and add bumped my account by $15 with no issues using a Mastercard.

| Re: Where's the Money? Exactly. That was one of the most sophisticated, well done, visually attractive, high tech sites I have ever used. They knew who their market is. Too bad the US record companies can't see that. The ability to choose the compression and type of the cut, order and pick up when complete, and pay accordingly was great. The ability to listen to a complete low res cut via a very sophisticated player that did not need a client side application was great! Selection was a bit limited, but not by much.
The problem is that the GREEDY record companies wanted their over zealous cut and didn't like that commerce was being done that would impose on their strangle hold on the market. That was the pressure that the US was putting on the Russian government and the only pressure. There was no other issue that was in play, just AOMP3. It wasn't copyright infringement. Look at all the screaming that happened when Jobs opened the iTunes Store. Now that he's done the numbers via bulk instead of price, they have stopped whining. It has changed the market in our favor. Too bad the record companies are too stingy to create sites that are as full featured, consumer friendly, and affordable as AllOfMP3.com. We'll never see nor have the options that were offered there because of their need for control.
I use to work in the recording industry and it is one big scam. So the rappers don't make millions to pimp out their rides, the company Exec's don't make enough to keep a mistress or pool boy on the side, the hardcore rockers enough to keep them in drugs and booze, the CW singers in haircare products and tour buses. This is suppose to be an art form that unfortunately these days has become a step to the other side of the rainbow. AOMP3 was the consumers pot at the end of the rainbow and with the changing state of music and its distribution they better stock up on tour buses while they can.

| Re: Where's the Money? Trouble is that the RIAA doesn't recognize that distinction. They're a bit like the US government in that respect. What's their's is their's and what's your's is their's.
In the past, the RIAA sued people on "behalf" of non-member artists. There was a bit of debate about the appropriateness of that last year. There were two issues involved that were a more than a little controversial. First was that some of the legal actions were taken on the "behalf" of these artists, not only without their request, but sometimes against the desire of the artist. The second issue was that the RIAA wasn't willing to hand over any settlement money to these non-member artists. The money was said to be "held" in "trusts" set up by the RIAA until these artists became members or were signed by member companies.

| Why not just take them over (Putin) or send in more black bag ops teams (Bush)?
Not to stray too far off topic, but does anyone find it odd, in a surreal reality kind of way, this much attention is being lavished on this kind of largely innocuous crap? While at the same time we both (US and Russia) have runaway corruption in government gallivanting around the world like it was the biggest game of RISK in history?
Healthcare out of control, school systems churning out an ever lower standard of citizen, environmental issues all over the place, energy concerns, human rights breeches abound, executive government out of control...etc and yet exceedingly large amounts of time an energy are being poured into tracking down those that copy bits of information from here to there?
I wonder sometimes whether this is all some bizarre dream, but I dont think I have the imagination to create all this.
The world truly needs a perspective check.

About the same time this news comes out, we read of Universal being a thorn in Apple's side and the RIAA being a thorn in the webcaster's side. The RIAA should take example of allofmp3 instead of being a thorn in people's sides.

| I'd be happy to download via Itunes if... The tracks were all DRM free, so I can freely play them on any mp3 player I choose, be it a computer, or my Iriver player. I'd also be happy to download from Itunes if they'd make the interface accessible to users such as myself who are totally blind and rely on screen reading software which does best with text, not gobs and gobs of graphics. I'd happily pay for music if I can download at max line speed, and the music is DRM free. You're not told that you can only play your purchased CD in Sony CD players, so you shouldn't be told how or where you can play content you shelled out money for that's online!
