well, "DVD Jon", we want to wish you good luck with activating your at&t phone w/o using at&t. we personally do not know what your issue is but we had no problem, basicly, man made it, man can break it...

It isn't even the price tag. It's the fact that they went exclusively with AT&T. They actually didn't want that. Apple shopped this thing around to everyone and everyone but ATT turned it down. Why? Because Apple controls the customer and makes the final decisions on repairs/replacements.
The wireless company (in this case ATT) can't even do a swap. No matter what the situation, the customer has to let the phone be shipped back to Apple where they make the decision on whether to replace/repair/deny. That can be a huge black eye in the customer service/retention department.
Not to mention, the stores can't even activate the phone. It has to be done through iTunes, at home. Talk about losing control of your subscriber...

Not sure how they would be able to activate otherwise...

| Somhow I highly doubt it. If you were right, Apple would've released the iPhone unlocked.
1. Buy the iPhone from Apple and put in your favorite carrier's SIM in it for BASIC phone functionality (that's make and receive calls, smartphone users).
2. For all other functionality (Ipod, Web, etc) activate it in iTunes.
Problem solved, everyone's happy.

| Re: Sticking it to the man Same here, I've had them for more than 5 years now, and wouldn't dream of changing. It's worked great wherever I've gone. Except at my home, but ahh well. That's what the landline is for. Or, I can just walk out my door. I've tested Verizon in the areas I've traveled, and have seen negligible difference. Of course, either phone was better in some areas than the other, but it felt balanced. This is at least in Maine. I've never had issues with my phone in NY, NJ, FL, GA, MA, NH (except Northern). I live in northern new england, so of course I'll have dead spots... | |

| blame must be shared i keep hearing the blame put on att...but the fact is att offers both edge and hsdpa..hsdpa being pretty quick in most areas ive been in......so why is it nobody is blaming apple for not including hsdpa support?(maybe to save some production cost? mind you a software update cannot resolve this)...my hermes100 aka att 8525 supports both and lets me tether it to my laptop to use as a internet connection..and it came out last year and is cheaper as well...although i must admit the iphones screen, browser and interface is very nice from the one i bought for my gf..i just expected more for 599$.....but fact is att offers a faster connection..APPLE chose NOT to add support for it in their phone...so blame them as well...ok macfanbois? | |
