plans are underway to change that. More than four miles of fiber-optic cables are being fastened underneath traffic lanes on both spans of the Chesapeake Bay Bridge. The high-wire installation, expected to be completed in two weeks, is part of an ongoing effort to strengthen the state's telecommunications infrastructure -- starting with the Eastern Shore. The entire state should have a fiber optic broadband network in place by 2010.
