last week, Qwest is now offering broadband customers free Microsoft OneCare security software (usually $50), as well as a new Live-driven portal and webmail service. Now comes
hints that Qwest is going to try to use the platform as a major part of their video delivery strategy:
Yost said Windows Live represents a "key part" of the company's video strategy. But he reiterated the close relationship the company has with satellite TV provider DirecTV Group Inc. (DTV). While DirecTV brings live content, he said Windows Live could be an outlet for more "specialized programming."
While AT&T and Verizon are spending billions on deploying new technology to offer video services, Qwest has taken a
wait-and-see approach when it comes to a broad assault on the TV business. Qwest does offer video services via fiber and VDSL to a limited number of development communities.
Update: Note that today the company
did announce they've upgraded network capacity.
