Earlier this year, the media in Corpus Christi pointed out that the major benefits of the citys Wi-Fi system were being seen by city workers. The workers that werent specifically mentioned were meter readers, but a new
Information Week article pays them their due homage. The article points out that EarthLink recently dedicated the municipal system which was inspired to launch after a meter reader was attacked by a dog. The system wasnt originally intended for residents but those savvy folks started piggybacking on the network and thats around the time that EarthLink got involved. Now Corpus Christi residents can pay to use the system. Of course, the system has some gaps so discussions are in the air about whether or not
WiMax could be used to fill in those gaps.
