I hope he does sell it to Time Warner or Cox. Service Sucks and is overpriced! Let someone that has the resources to maintain it take it over, rather then just run it into the ground. BTW did I mention tech support sucks @ss!

| Re: Sell IT :) I second the motion that tech support sucks, but I really haven't had to call it (thankfully) because I haven't really had any major issues, just quibbles. I usually get a little help, but not much.
However, I'm not having any problems with Charter other than their price is higher for Triple Play than I was paying for VZ Phone/DSL + DTV. Maybe if there was some competition around here for HSI there might be some desire to be competitive pricewise.
I don't see TimeWarner changing anything if they bought Charter out here. Wouldn't change the lack of competition in this market, so the price wouldn't change. And from the stories I've heard about the fun TW is having absorbing Adelphia in the L.A. area, I really don't want to see my fairly decent connection and service go completely in the toilet. -- "No one will believe you solved this problem in one day! We've been working on it for months. Now, go act busy for a few weeks and I'll let you know when it's time to tell them." (R&D Supervisor, Minnesota Mining & Manufacturing /3M Corp.)

| I have lived in a number of diferent service areas and charter pretty much the same price as Time Warner, less than comcast, and I have no idea about Cox as i've never had them.
If Charter were to be sold it would be to Time Warner since there service dove-tails TW in the LA and NY market and also the wisconsin market, and other major markets

| Ouch Uncle Paul is gonna lose his shirt either way on Charter. Guess his Wired World idea is bogged down by inept managment and enormous debt. And from what I have heard from some friends that still work there, its only getting worse. Sucks for Paul but I seriously doubt that its going to put a hurting on his financial situation | |

My satisfaction with charter gets better every year, as do most in my area. Only a few locations gets the majority of complaints..mostly West Coast users.
I see Charter Selling off West Coast operations, and keeping midwest.

Probably spent around 25-30 hrs on the phone in 1 year to get all my billing and other issues resolved. When it takes a company 3-4 months to bury a drop and 7 calls in one day to get a cable card activated properly, problems run deeeep. -- Ofallon, Mo Weather ,

| I worked in the St. Louis call center for several years. Its far from just being complaints from the coasts. I would get dozens of complaints every day about poor service in just the St. Louis area that we supported. We had one particular area in St. Louis county that went down almost daily around 6pm and another area like that just across the river in Illinois. It got to the point that I knew people by voice recognition because they were calling every day.
There are places that the service works well. Mine works pretty much all the time except they cant get my bill right and keep turning off things I should have like VOD and my high def channels. Even though the service works, the lack of customer support makes me want to switch to something else. They just can't get it right.

| Crappy but not sure if the alternative is better. I've had no extreme problems, some billing issues and having to reboot my modem once or twice a week although I have not had to do that in a while.
The only other worthwile ISP around here is AT&T and I don't want to go to them for the above reason.

| I say sell to Time Warner... I have been getting the run around from Charter for years as a local official. They refuse to build out, yet build where there are NO homes. I contacted Time Warner and they were VERY responsive and are looking at providing service in the area along side Charter. My hope would have been that Charter got pushed out, but this new idea of a purchase would be wonderful.
Charter has enough problems maintaining what they have and confusing customers into thinking that services are available and won't worry about adding additional customers to lower ROI in areas. I welcome a sale, thats for sure....

| Selling only makes sense Obviously Charter is in a bad situation. There is far too much debt at a time where they need to starting making huge investments to modernize the infrastructure to handle all of the upcoming HD channels and other new advancements. The field techs are overburdened and the call centers are swamped with calls, forcing customers to wait eons on hold to get certain questions answered (waited and gave up after 35 minutes myself in June to have a supervisor find out why my installer had not arrived on time). Selling off a few areas would give them a cash flow injection quickly while reducing the amount of labor and maintenance costs. I don't know if one of the big companies can be convinced to add a few more cities to their upgrade and management lists (Comcast is still trying to get their last few pickups integrated into their systems years after the fact AFAIK), but Charter really needs to find out if they have not investigated those avenues already. | |

| Re: Selling only makes sense Paul Allen will take company private and will be "Selling off a few areas would give them a cash flow injection quickly while reducing the amount of labor and maintenance costs." And once taken private and stable, then he will sell it to one of the bigger cable operators (TWC, Comcast). Uncle Paul's been losing money for awhile and wants the bleeding to stop. By the way, he's not as stupid as you think. | |
