Suddenlink Doubling Speeds
Premier to 10Mbps, Preferred to 8Mbps
by Karl Bode Monday 03-Sep-2007 tags: business · bandwidth · cable · Suddenlink
Suddenlink Communications is bumping up downstream speeds for users in several markets. The company is doubling the speed of their "premier" tier to 10Mbps/2Mbps from 5mbps and is also doubling the speed of their "preferred" tier to 8Mbps/1Mbps from 4Mbps. The company also offers a "value" tier at 1 mbps. The company's website utterly fails to offer prices, so we've inquired (hey, uh, great video though).

The operator, which has traditionally been poorly reviewed by our users, just recently sold their Northern Virginia operations to Jet Broadband. It appears these new upgrades are being deployed in a staggered fashion across Suddenlink territories, though as the speedtest shows, not everybody has been invited to the party.

Re: lol speed tet

Woah there silver, don't lead the charge too fast, you might consume all the bandwidth. I totally sympathize though. I had Verizon Dsl in 2000 and it didn't fair much better.

I am sure its because..

I know several suddenlink users who would love to see this happen. To bad it appears that suddenlink barely knows how to manage the connections they have now.

Giving your subs what they currently pay for.

Let me guess: the area's seeing the increases are the markets where FIOS is available.

Wow they are in the past

They have pretty bad reviews, laughable speed tests, and their website does not give very much information.

Looks like they are still using that P.O.S. blue TV Guide with the huge ad boxes on the left hand side of the screen. Get with the program suddenlink, its now 2007, your still living in the past.

Jet Broadband bought out some systems so that could be interesting. Jet had pretty archaic systems for the longest time but they are upgrading everything to 1 GHz and will finally be able to position themselves in the market.

Suddenlink

I really hate to see all these bad comments
about suddenlink. I have had great service
for over a year now. Yes they have had problems,
but they jumped in withboth feet to start a
new cable provider for a lot of customers.
They have been in the process of upgrading
and fixing sytems in all the areas they
have a footprint. Alot of this systems
were left in bad shape by the previous
providers. So please give them some time.

good service in east texas

We have seen double the download speeds in the past week here in tyler. Went from 4 megs down to like 8.1 to 8.3 megs down. I was hoping to see some upload speed increases but did not see that. I really can not complain of suddenlinks service since it has been good here.

Just a thought

Maybe the bandwidth would open up if they booted the Bank of America phishing spammer off of their network.

*shudder*

This company was a nightmare for me; I won't go into detail for fear of having post-traumatic flashbacks. Service improved greatly after New Wave Communications purchased Suddenlink's operations in my area.

"Suuuddenlink! *clap clap* We're connected!...Suuuddenlink! *clap clap* We're connectaaaauuud..."

Their horrid TV commercials are forever burned into my brain. I desperately wanted to strangle that "You're bad...you must be a caveman." dude.

Speeds are good in Amarillo

I have been getting what I'm paying for since they took over Cox in West Texas. Looking forward to the speed increase here.

Suddenlink doubling speeds

The new speeds are real, and will be available to all Suddenlink customers nationwide. In some markets, new speeds are being offered to new customers now. In North Carolina, the 4M is going to 8M and the 5M is going to 10M. Employees got the new speeds recently. Look for them to be available to all customers in another month or so. I will post my speed test result from home later, but as an employee, I consistently get 7.8M or 7.9M now.

Re: Suddenlink doubling speeds

So as an employee, Can you give us any idea as to when the roll out will happen? Also, what is the price for the 10/2?

As an employee can you tell us commercial account people when, or if, we will ever get any speed increases?

I used to pay, and in one of two instances pay dearly, for commercial accounts which had more bandwidth than residential accounts. Now it appears that SL has completely abandoned their commercial account business.

Early October. And the price will not change. I have the Preferred (was 4M, now 8M). I've been getting 7.8M and 7.9M most of the time. I'm getting 7.299M tonigh, but I promised a speed test link, so here it is.

Re: Suddenlink doubling speeds

I forgot to answer a couple of your questions. The price for 10M is $54.99 for standalone, but you can get it cheaper in a package. 8M is $39.99, and again, there are deals where you can get it cheaper.
