Website errors make support a pain...

A few weeks back, Verizon confused their FiOS customers into thinking they were seeing a rate hike when they weren't. With the flurry of contract length, tier/speed, and bundle options, it's already a pretty confusing landscape for some consumers to navigate. It's probably not helped when the company itself isn't sure of its own pricing.

Our regular users say the company's website pricing breakdown has repeatedly contained errors. In one instance, Verizon advertised their symmetrical 20Mbps/20Mbps service as the same price as their 20Mbps/5Mbps service. In another instance, two different prices were listed for the same tier. Several posters say that contacting tech support doesn't seem to help:
I posted a few weeks back about another screwup when they first offered 20/20 symmetrical service-- two different prices were listed (64.99, 69.99). I spoke with two VZ phone reps + a chat rep, and all 3 of them had no clue which was right. One said to assume higher, the other 2 said it was lower (which was the wrong answer).
People love FiOS itself, but the service's billing and support continues to leave plenty to be desired.

Get the lowest price :)

keep calling until you get the price you want? The Verizon phone/dsl person I talked to when ordering had good information on the costs of each type of their service in my area. It's strange that they'd use one set of support/sales people for copper lines and another for FIOS.

Yes, I've done this. Although, I didn't get the monthly rate reduce, the CSR just credited my account for X dollars times Y months. I still have $105.00 credit on my account. Essentially, I had a credit for a total 5 months of FiOS 15/2Mbps, still about two more to go!

Sorry, Verizon's 'Magic 8 Ball' is out for service, so the reps actually have to make up their own answers for a change.

Gotta love it when each time you call you get a different answer, if you don't like the answer you get, just hang up and call back again.

So true, Verizon DSL is no better, Of course their Magic 8 Ball is defective and has been recalled as their 8 Ball was afraid of being tortured more. As It kept locking up after a bit.

The reason for the price differential is that subs without telco pay $5 more than a sub with telephone.

Don't Use Automated Billing

Just be sure not to do that, so they can't screw that up.

Just mail the check or initiate the credit card payment every time. At least that way they can't screw that up.

I'm on the 20/5 Plan and I'm paying 44 bucks a month I think.

Doesn't it say on your bill? Or did you just sign up for it?

I hope it stays that way.

The thing about automated payments that scares me is that it gives your creditors free access to your money. This is why I use checks or manual credit card payments to pay my bills.

It also allows me to fix billing errors before I pay, since in my experience it's harder to get them to give you money back.

This may be only somewhat related, but I have a VZW mobile phone. When I downgraded to a smaller plan, they added the "unlimited" data feature at the same time, something I didn't want. They also didn't tell me, so I didn't find out until I got my bill. So, I had them take it off before I paid.

It's easier than paying and hoping they will give me a refund check.

Poor Support and Billing - nothing new there.

How about the bane of EVERY bill. When YOU make a mistake, there's h!@# to pay, when THEY make a mistake, it's "we'll get back to ya on that".

Re: Poor Support and Billing - nothing new there.

My experience: Tech Support will not quote prices. They will refer you to the 'billing & payments' department. When calling 888-553-1555, be sure to indicate to the automated voice-response system that your call is in regards to 'billing.' This is the best bet when you need to acquire accurate prices for your area.

They know not what they sell...

I'm visiting my parents in lovely Palm Harbor, Florida. The VZ DSL service here sucks - it's slow at night and when my dad calls up they tell him that "the internet is slow at night because it's busy". So while telling him that's BS, I see a FiOS door hanger on the table. Apparently it's been available here for months, but whenever he calls to find out what just internet or internet + phone costs they keep telling him that the three services cannot be unbundled... D'oh!

Frustrating to say the least. I'd kill for FiOS at home, yet he has it available and they won't even tell him what it would cost or what the speeds are. $99/month bundle or nothing it seems.

Jeez, if I were you, I'd tell them myself and get them wired. Just make sure they're aware of the billing snafu's so they're prepared to fix them.

FiOS is still pretty good, despite the billing crap.

I really have no clue what the cost is in this area. My understanding is that FiOS pricing and speeds vary considerably from region to region. If the kiosk guy below is correct, then I think he'd sign up in a heartbeat as long as they'd let him suspend the service for a few months over the summer like they do with current pots/dsl.

If they want Internet and Phone and it is available in their area then the price is $64.99 per month. Come on by University Mall in Tampa there is a FiOS Kiosk in the mall. We can handle just about any order. Plus is you sign up before the end of the year you get a free Digital Camcorder or a $50 Best Buy Gift card for signing up.

Lets not forget all the advertising money wasted

I'm a subscriber and I get daily mailings about getting FIOS. They're probably throwing away at least 5 dollars a week at stuffing my mailbox full of advertising better spent on a non subscriber.

I am a Cablevision Boost (30Mbs/5Mbs) user and a week does not go by without my getting a Verizon Junk Mailer telling me about their "Great" slow speed (xMbs/xxxKbs) DSL support. Since I am not in the market for a major downgrade, I wish they would save some money by stopping this unwanted Junk Mail and use it to send me a FIOS offer instead (it is available in my area but because I live in a 4 unit per building condo they are unwilling to offer it to me).

OOL speedboost? You must be kidding right?! That speedboost is nothing but a joke as is OOL. 30mbps you rarely get, and will only get if it's "cached". AND say HELLO to the OOL CAP! You hit the "hidden untold" cap and you'll be downloading at 0kbps. FiOS offers 20/5 service - yes it's a free upgrade from the 15/2(5) in most major markets and comes with guess what NO HIDDEN CAPS! You can d/l as much and as often as you want! So tomorrow when you login you'll still be at the same speed! Cable is SHARED bandwidth people and they just can't compete with fiber to the house!

Do you know what your talking about? Nope ive been an Optonline customer since i signed up on here. Well THe speeds are consistant throughout the whole grid in the US. you telling me you guys on 20/20 fios are in NY get 20mb/20mb to west coast Los Angles Server Speakeasy.net speed test. Dont use internal network speeed test they always are higher. Use an external source which uses a tier 1 backbone, Usually OC192. Tier 2 backbones OC-12 usually wont give u an accurate test.

But DWAFO i upload so many torrents my year to date is 700GB Uploaded and 1.2TB Downloaded. Im not capped. Now Boost = no caps. Sorry but i never heard of your claims by any Cisco Certified Techs. Yea i hold a CCNA
