'Ideal leader' lands at Neustar....

Lisa Hook, who (according to Sunrocket employees) played a major role in the VoIP company's 2007 implosion, has found new employment. Hook has been named president and chief operating officer of Neustar, a provider of clearinghouse and directory services to the telecom and Internet industry.

According to SEC filings, Hook will have a base salary of $435,000. From the company's press release:
"Lisa is the ideal leader," said Jeff Ganek, chairman and chief executive officer at NeuStar. "She's a growth specialist. She brings to NeuStar rich experience in advanced IP services, and her experience in voice and wireless telecommunications is rich.
Said "ideal leader" and "growth specialist" angered a great many SunRocket VoIP users by abandoning ship without telling her own customers that the company was going out of business. Customers found out a week later when liquidators finally sent out an e-mail telling them to find a new provider.

Before her stint at SunRocket, Hook was responsible for migrating AOL dial-up customers to broadband, a project that also didn't go so well.

It's real easy, just send a resume to some big company, make up a ton of fake experience doing "major" executive stuff, have a friend on a number to call to "verify" this and that's it. I've seen it done many times before.

Her "experience" may have been less than successful, but it wasn't fake.

President of AOL Broadband, Premium and Developer Services, where she grew the AOL Broadband service from 300,000 subscribers to over five million subscribers in less than two years. She also created AOL's Premium Services business in early 2003, which grew to over two million subscribers by year-end 2004. Earlier, Hook launched AOL's wireless and voice services businesses.

Prior to joining AOL in 2000, Hook was a partner at Brera Capital Partners LLC, a private equity firm focused on media and telecommunications. She also served in a number of executive roles with Time Warner, Inc. including Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of Time Warner Telecom, Special Advisor to the Vice Chairman and Vice President of Time Warner, Inc., managing telecom-related transactions.

Earlier in her career, Hook served as the Legal Advisor to the Chairman of the Federal Communications Commission and as Senior Attorney at Viacom International Inc., where she oversaw the legal department of Viacom's cable division

Re: Don't...

Lisa Hook wasn't the fault of AOL HSI's failure it was the ridiculous price the top idiots thought AOL "stupies" would pay. They got brains and didn't. Still, snagging 2 million idiots to pay $15 more a month for DSL is impressive. Also, AOL HSI couldn't handle the volume even though many ppl had full green on their modems.

AOL should've dropped their price to $9.95 a month for dial-up and let HSI users add it for free (ads could have paid for it). But, no, the bigshots at AOL Time Warner wanted it all instead of being of the common cent$ variety.

Numer Portability Doomed

With Lisa's wonderful history and the major role that Neustar plays in the processing of number portability especially for VoIP providers expect an increase in horror stories regarding people trying to port their numbers.

Oh Lawd!

Unlike Hook's previous adventures, NeuStar actually performs some critical functions in the industries it serves and it could cripple our national infrastructure if something happens to the company.

"The Wrench"

Simialrly, we had a guy at the company I work for in the IT department. Consistently made really, really bad errors in judgement that angered emplyees with better knowledge, and overall did nothing to imrove our systems over 6 years. Every year, he got promoted to some higher-level position in the company where you get paid a ton of money to do nothing, essentially. The IT guys here nicknamed him "The Wrench", because everything he touched turned to crap.

The guy eventually made it up so far that he didn't have anywhere else to go but out, because he was in way over his head in terms of knowledge+skill - that he didn't have. He was finally terminated about 18 months ago when a new management team came in, but he rode the wave nicely here for about 8 years. Impressive.

This is what I think of when I hear about this former SR executive.

Neustar shutting down

Neustar must be looking to go out of business and liquidate the company. There can be no other explanation for her ever getting another job.

This woman would be qualified to work for the government

This woman sounds like she is so incompetent that she should get a government job and join a government union. They incompetence and criminal activity. She would be perfect for them!

That's practically what Neustar is... they wouldn't exsist if it wasn't for FCC-mandated LNP & WLNP.

You guys forgot....

...about her tenure on the Covad board. Let's see, in charge of AOL broadband (an oxymoron), CEO Sunrocket's ride to nowhere, Covad board member while they pissed away every oportunity. That's quite a resume. Cut her some slack.

It depends on the size of the company. Some (maybe most) CEOs don't earn that much.

Be Afraid

Neustar is a major player in Local Number Portability.

It's sick to see people fail time and time again and get these high profile positions at other companies.

Course I'm not surprised at all when this nation elects a president who presided over 16 failed corporations.

same ol' story

When you get to the top level executive positions you can practically do no wrong. They basically scratch each others backs and try to find new ways to get bigger bonuses no matter how the company is doing. Let's see what kind of golden parachute she gets this time.

This isn't really broadband news

While I enjoy mocking businesses that are supposedly interested in making money doing stupid things, it doesn't really tell me anything about telephone or broadband service. Slow news day? I guess it gives the people burned by SunRocket something to feel good about.

I promise not to make anymore comments saying "I don't care" after this one. For a month.

growth specialist, huh?

No sure what kind of specialist that is but if she not doing good for the companies she worked for then it must mean the other thing I am thinking about. I think the other poster nailed it on the head and I too agree she not that tv attractive either but I guess in that business it don't matter anymore.
