At least the price came down from $47.99 in another story here, to $39. One year contract?.. I'm not sure I trust Verizon that much to deliver reliable service. With all their network problems, 7M DSL and FIOS may just push them over the edge. I think I'll sit this one out and see what happens. -- If only the Verizon CSRs worked this well.

Bell is waiting for a communist revolution, since Canadian last mile telecom companies are in a much more cozy monopoly than USA. Remember Canada has no trace of ownership rules, or antitrust rules. Look at Bell GlobalMedia, in the USA, that would be Verizon owning AOL Time Warner.

| Look out Comcast! I would leave Comcast if this is available to me. I'm quickly getting fed up with my connection crashing because, according to their tech, 'the boosters go on the fritz when it gets cold', yet the problem existed even before winter. Lovely. It's still not any revolutionary increase in speed. But atleast it's progress. Still, I look forward to see what is offered in the next gen internet speeds. | |

| Bet FIOS first I'd be willing to bet FIOS shows up first for some areas.
I know that they'd be dumb to double rollout FIOS and this. I'd prefer FIOS.
I'm still waiting for FIOS to be rolled out to office buildings (and with business plans). I have a few people that could use it.

Verizon hates doing businesses in terms of FIOS rollout. Residential MDUs are scarce, office MDU is non-existent. FIOS in an office building means Verizon is killing its own $400 a month 1.5mbit T1s, $7000 a month T3s, and $10K plus SONET lines. In an office building I have access to its wiring closets, this building got Cablevision only a year ago, 2/3rds of the T1 units are abandoned now, and 1/2 of the building now has Cablevision (15/2 and 38/5), Im sure there is decimation of ADSL lines too (floors with no T1s now get cable).

| Re: Bet FIOS first Well, they have FIOS for business, but it appears it's only for businesses in their own separate and distinct buildings. Large office buildings (the tall multi-story, many different tenants type) don't seem to be able to get FIOS, even if it would really only serve a single tenant's business network (and these are usually small to mid-sized networks that wouldn't overload the offered FIOS packages).
Wierd. A residential MDU would probably work for all single-WAN oriented businesses, even in a tower office building. -- "No one will believe you solved this problem in one day! | Re: Bet FIOS first No, I'm saying Verizon could give a single-link Business customer the same FIOS equipment they give residential users, just like they did when I had a Westell 2200 DSL modem and the business I worked for got the same modem when they ordered DSL service, too, albeit a business-class pricing plan, not a residential plan.
Granted, I have zero experience with FIOS, so maybe I'm missing a step... -- "No one will believe you solved this problem in one day! We've been working on it for months. | Re: Bet FIOS first Yeah I understand you now. FIOS Business tiers don't get you different equipment, or give you a special line. There is no SLA, your service is just as equal as any residential FIOS line (except for extra cost, unblocked port 80, and possibly speed and static IPs). A FIOS Business customer doesn't get a ethernet or T3 SONET Ring at their NID with 4 fibers when they order, even though FIOS speeds no matter what class you are, do approach a T3 on the download side, and sorta on upload:D

| Within 8000 feet! Since the distance keeps shrinking will the 10Mbps service be a WiFi G router on top of the CO and 1000ft distance limitation? Then they can upgrade to an N router and offer 15Mbps service.
IMO copper is great when used within its limitations. Trying to use it to keep up with cable is just marketing.

That'd bump the 7mbit loop length up to over 10 thousand feet. They have upgraded to ADSL2+ in a lot of areas. This has caused some headaches with the 3/768 plan though because there have been some people not in ADSL2+ areas provisioned for it as if they were. So then you end up with pissed off people dropping sync saying, "But Verizon said..." I'm glad they are keeping it to fairly short distances right now.
The big reason Verizon is offering this is because the just can't roll out FIOS fast enough for everyone, and in a lot of areas Cables higher speeds are starting to cost them DSL customers. A lot of people have been asking for this for a long time now, ever since the first started trials of it almost 2 years ago.

| not necessarily slower for the distance but repeaters or Load coils have to be placed on the copper to get the signal to you regular Verizon dsl has always been 18000 feet from the co or less and no loads as loads add distance to the loop 7 meg dsl has been around for awhile but was called business grade and requires a different router or dsl modem | |

Not that I notice a huge jump, though it comes in handy when trying out new versions of linux aka 700mb+ down loads. I did download the demo of crysis game it was about 1.7gigs in size and it took only 25 minutes give or take 10 minutes. Nice not to have to pay so much for about 6mbs after the overhead.

She knew the deal and thinks she can get me in.New modem I think and a tech has to come out for free to check the line. I am in 90712. FIOS is 1.5 miles away but it might as well be 5000. | 7.1 I ordered mine today. They are suppose to come out Friday 1/11. I have less than 3000 feet line distance to CO so should work very well. As for all the nay sayers I have had Verizon DSL since the Bell Atlantic days. The only problem I had was the modem failed, which they replaced at no charge. Other than that it has been flawless. | Availability in PA? I called on Thursday and had to direct the rep to the verizon newscenter website to show her the press release. She then proceeded to put me on hold for 20 mins to check with her supervisor. She then informed me that the 7.1 pricing of 39.99 was not available in my area. What kind of crap is that? She said it is not available in PA for 39.99 anybody else in PA got it? she really didnt sound like she knew what she was doing. I was pissed and she knew it so she credited my account 30 dollars but i just want the speed bump. Any advice / comments????
