Removing The MonaRonaDona Virus
Our forum users highlight viral extortion scheme
The Washington Post blog gives a well-deserved back-pat to the very knowledgeable folks in our Security forum, who've been helping people remove the MonaRonaDona virus for the last few days. This one's a bit interesting: the virus in question makes as much noise as possible, embedding its name in every IE window -- making sure users do a Google search for removal. The top search result (or it used to be until our users got involved) was for a $39.90 piece of software that will only remove MonaRonaDona -- aka "extortionware."

Always nice to be mentioned in major papers

It would have been great if they named the virus removal application "Roseanne Roseannadanna". That would have made me chuckle. "Download Roseanne Roseannadanna to remove the MonaRonaDona" virus.

Kudos to the people in the forum there for the continued help with all they do.

Nail the Perps

So how hard is it to track down who the makers of "Unigray Antivirus" are?

Re: That's Right!

You'd think we could pick a better name for these virii though.

But, seriously, as others have said, major props to the Security forum crew for getting things done.

Congrats...

To Broadband Reports! I wonder if this is that one virus I've been having to clean out of everyone's comps lately. I'll have to see.

Huzzah!

And THIS is why I come to this excellent site.

Well, this, and to see how many times Dadkins and I can agree with each other and still creep each other out.

But mostly this.

Well done, all!

Imagine to my shock when I logged on today to find this virus on my pc. First of all, why on gods green earth would it come after my PC? I'm a native American indian and of foreign origin, not in any type of negative following against the up holding the rights of others. Human rights activist they say? They want to look at who they are worming before they send stuff like this. I find it insulting and honestly could careless as this pc is only for browsing anyway. But as they say, what goes around comes around and in this case hopefully back to the hacker who sent it to me.
