Since they all supposedly support cable cards (although you may have to argue with them to get them), what is the point of using (atleast in comcasts case) of the comcast hardware with the tivo software at around $23 a month.. when you can probably rent to cable cards and buy an S3 (initial outlay of cost is more) or HD Tivo. The monthly costs will be lower, and you do not have to deal with the limitations set by comcast, and the inevitable limitations cox will set. | |

I tried the VOD several times and found it to be more of a nuisance than anything useful. It was exceptionally slow to respond in the menus (just checking to see the available programs or a program description could take minutes, it was very frustrating to press a button to see the description, wait a minute for it to finally show, then wait another minute to back up to the previous menu, etc..) By the time you waited and waited and waited for the menus to appear, you were too frustrated to enjoy watching anything. Then, when you were watching, the forward/reverse/pause were anything but "instant". They were a "sometime" item. After a few tries of using Comcast's VOD, I gave up and never tried it again. | |

| Switched Digital Video isn't supported on cable cards yet, and is using this in some markets all ready, like Fairfax county. Without support for this TIVO can't access many of the channels. This may be resolved if the adapter box for SDV, that has been promised ever comes out. But who knows how long it will be until the next new technology(MPEG4?) breaks TIVO's access to cable programing, and TIVO users are stuck waiting for another upgrade. | |

| Once People Realize That after a year of 19.99 + 2.99 it would be more cost effective to have bought a 299.99 Tivo HD and rented cable cards (In many cases MCard) where they only shell out 2.99 + tivo subscription fees which are cheap if you do multi year options.
On the flipside if people dont use the comcast tivo option they'd probably say tivo sucks because nobody wants it. When in fact people were just buying their own.

They should just sell their own DVR hardware and save their customer from paying the pointless Tivo Tax.
A PVR should never have a monthly cost unless you are leasing it. I just cannot understand why anyone would buy a Tivo. It s like buying your computer for $500 and then having to pay a monthly fee for no reason to use it.
Tivo is the biggest scam of the 21st century.
Replay TV was so much better.
I do not pay a monthly fee to use my Windows media center PC which does everything a Tivo does.

| tivo monthly charges. Am I the only one that thinks that Tivo's subscriptions have always been a little on the steep side? (no, i don't need a tivo fanboy's response listing all their cutesy features).
For the "average" dvr user like myself, just give me a box with a hard drive and a program guide to set recordings.
Aside from access to the program guide and remote scheduling, am I missing something here?
While I do think the Tivo HD is reasonably priced, I think committing yourself to a three year plan is a little much to get the monthly fees down to earth. | |

| have a tivo i have a tvio it works it can transfer to my pc for me it was WAY cheaper than build a htpc i got the series 2 tivo unit for $80 and a year of prepay service for 130 so i have a very nice dual tuner dvr for ~200 and it still works for the dual tuner and dvr even with out service | |

i'm never going to get a comcasTivo; I'm on the West Coast. sounds like they suck anyways.
What about with HDTV? would I rent an HD box from my cable company, and run the HD tivo past the ..... right, CableCards.
