This time across the country in Stanford...

After controversy erupted last month over Comcast's use of crowd filler at the FCC's network neutrality hearing in Harvard, Silicon Valley gossip blog Valleywag claimed the agency was considering a second hearing in Stanford. When asked, FCC boss Kevin Martin denied the report. So it makes perfect sense that the FCC has now announced (pdf) a second network neutrality & traffic shaping public hearing at Stanford on April 17:

The Commission will hear from expert panelists regarding broadband network management practices and Internet-related issues. The hearing scheduled at Stanford University is the second such hearing on broadband network management practices and Internet-related issues to be held by the FCC and follows a similar hearing held at Harvard Law School last month. . . The hearing at Stanford University is open to the public, and seating will be available on a first-come, first-served basis.
So bring your hired/bribed/constructed out of paper mache neutrality seat dummies well ahead of time, because after Comcast's stunt at the last hearing it's likely people will be showing up -- oh, a little early for this one.

Why ask?

Why even ask Martin? He says (and apparent believes) whatever HE wants, reality is not a barrier.

Re: Why ask?

I'd love to have dinner with Martin and try and find out what his intentions are? Is he personally bought? Or do the lobbyists insulate him from getting any answers? And then bury him in papework and disinformation so deep that he can't make any progress?

It's not his fault that comcast bussed in people.

It never stops

It's awful, but this is what we've come to expect from FCC issues. Muck the waters and forget the issues. It's still not as bad as astroturf campaign's in my opinion. Why doesn't the television news media run stories like this? They love catching companies doing unethical things.

Most llikely Comcast will do it again...

I see now reason as to why Comcast won't pull the same stunt they did last time. Hopefully they will buy a higher quality tier of "placeholders" and ditch the yellow highlighters.

Stanford area Comcast employees will be waiting in line 24 hrs ahead of time like teenagers do for concert tickets.

Highly doubtful. Even with the "seat warmers" at Harvard holding their place, the Comcast employees never arrived.

By and large, they don't like Comcast's bullshit either.

UPDATE... UPDATE... UPDATE... UPDATE...

Martin told reporters after Wednesday's (March 19) FCC meeting that he hadn't been planning on having a second hearing until discussing the idea with Stanford Law Professor Larry Lessig during his visit to the campus last week.

[...]

Martin also said Wednesday that the hearing would affect the agency's timetable for acting on a pending complaint against Comcast's network management practices, which he said he hoped would occur by the end of the second quarter.

I'll be there...

Get the date and make sure those that fiercely oppose comcast get there early as you can bet they will be paying the supporters to keep the public in the dark of what they are doing.
