Truth is only a person's perception of realityIn Comcast's mind, only their perception can be truth. Their perception of reality however varies from most of our perceptions and thus we are in disagreement.
Comcast's motto:
To begin with, our perception of the world is deformed, incomplete. Then our memory is selective. Finally, writing transforms.

Re: Truth is only a person's perception of realityThey must have one of Bush's people working there. Spin Doctors are what they are called. Do one thing, and flip it around. Sort of like the 99 reasons we invaded Iraq. Comcast's new slogan will be Stay the Course. Even though we're wrong, we'll try every way to pretend we weren't. Albeit, we try to sell our customers on how we're now consumer friendly, while still continuing to do said practice. WTG Comcast, does that jar of vasoline come with or without a contract?

Re: Truth is only a person's perception of realityI'm not comparing the war itself as a whole but the rationale. The rationale is the same here than Iraq. Sell the customers or the people on one thing, while continue with the same bad behavior.

Re: Truth is only a person's perception of realityWell if you want to get down to the truth of it, some institutions actually use p2p like products to share data among their branches. If Comcast does this on more than a customer basis, then yes, people could be affected. As with packet sniffing / forged packets, you don't know what gets blocked. This software is less than perfect so legitimate traffic could be interfered with. I doubt it's claiming lives but it opens them up to a lot of legal problem as Comcast is realizing now. Not to mention, say a hospital or medical institution were to use such a system in order to share records privately. Would you want their packets forged and interrupted?

Hmmm I'd think it's more like this: Comcast's motto: "Our perception is one of complete truth. We understand everyone else's perceptions are deeply flawed, but we are absolute and resolute in our knowledge that we are right. They cannot help their false perceptions of us, it is their flawed nature; We will re-educate them, and bend them to our will, by all means necessary. The greater good of the Empire requires their realignment and unquestioning loyalty. They will comply, or be destroyed. We are the greater glory. We exist to better all mankind. Prepare to be assimilated."

Too funny...After their little PR stunt with Bittorrent some called them "forward thinking" etc.
Their letter to the FCC now shows just how "forward thinking" they truly are. They blatantly lied about hindering P2P applications and were caught red handed. To not be able to admit fault is amazing. Hell even my 5 year old can admit fault and say "sorry".
Pathetic. | |

Re: Too funny...Recapping...
They targeted BitTorrent, making their customer's experience using the connections they paid for to download all those movies and songs they say you can get more Comcastic! than usual.
Then they lied about forging RST packets, denying they were doing it.
Then they admitted they were forging RST packets.
Then they issued a press release saying they will stop targeting BitTorrent exclusively (aka, they will be "protocol agnostic")
Now they are denying they admitted the forgery, or even denied anything, and in his best Nathan Therm, Cohen says "Comcast has not now admitted anything about Comcasts network management practices that we previously denied."
Is there something in the Philly water? Or was he "Enlightened" by the legal department...

pretty dumbcomcast should just keep their mouth shut - the FCC isn't going to do anything about comcast interfering with BT protocol or anything else.
Martin is just talking up the game for congress and the public.

Comcast Must Die!Glad I dumped Comcast last year and don't ever see us going back. I tried to show how Comcast monopolizes where ever they supply their product as a single entity and have been consolidating their stranglehold for the last six or seven years. This guy did a better job. » www.ComcastMustDie.com/

I've got an idea...Let's take the lead of EU of pressing insane fines everyday for non-compliance and sue when they refuse to pay up. Seems like it is working just fine for them, why not try it here? It may just be me, but are cable internet opperators more willy to mess (caps, anti-bittorrent actions, etc.) with their customer's connection compared to DSL internet operators?

For the most part that appears to be true, with one major exception: Bell Canada (Sympatico). And in the States, AT&T has talked about implementing piracy filters, but hasn't acted on that yet.

DumbIt seems pretty dumb and short-sighted of Comcast to basically call out Martin and the FCC on this. Don't they remember that Martin pretty much despises all things Cable?
The cable Co's haven't gotten any breaks from Martin since he's been the FCC head, what do they think is going to happen if they pick a fight? Dumb move on the part of Comcast as they have basically just sealed their fate concerning future traffic-shaping possibilities. It will more than likely be shut down completely now. (Not that that would be a bad thing!)

One lost customer..Well, because of this mess i am not a comcast customer. When i moved into my new place, i had a choice. Comcast or rcn. (I thought comcast wasn't available at first but was corrected). I picked rcn. I can use bittorrent without a problem. (I don't use bittorrents that often but when i do, i like to be able to use them without a problem.)
So, rcn should be very grateful that i picked them over a major cable provider. Rcn may not be the largest provider but it has been working out very well now. It's just a shame that most people don't have an option on which cable provider they can go with. I'm one of the lucky ones.

Re: One lost customer..It's funny you should say that, because RCN has a very similar P2P traffic management solution to Comcast. BT traffic is not throttled on the inbound. However, you will see issues in seeding, we do manage outbound p2p off our network. You are fully able to seed to your hearts content on-net, but there are policies in place to manage outbound P2P. » Re: RCN or Comcast?

I can seed upto my upload cap without a problem. I don't keep it that way, but i can. My upload cap is set at 2200kbps. So, i guess so far it's been ok for me. Can that change? Sure, but for now i am happy.

The difference? They're not as draconian about it (or you'd see dozens of posts complaining) and they admit it, upfront. Comcast, on the other hand, lies and then lies about the lies.
