Confirms suspicions about plans for spectrum acquisition

When Echostar snagged over $700 million in the FCC’s recent spectrum auction, analysts started speculating what the company’s plans were. All predictions pointed to the belief that the company was planning to use the spectrum to develop its mobile TV service. It now appears that these predictions are confirmed after the company has announced a new partnership with Alcatel-Lucent to test DVB-SH mobile TV technology here in the U.S. The licenses acquired in the spectrum auction would be compatible with this testing. Many analysts maintain that it’s a bad business move due to the cost of initiating such a service and the existing competition in the market.

Need to add more HD to dish network first.

i think echostar should worry more about adding more HD to there service than other things

It did not explode, it failed to reach the intended orbit. There are several options available to the sat owners and Dish is still on target with their roll out of HD locals. The Tampa Bay/St. Petersburg, FL. area got our HD locals right on schedule and Charlie has said the national HD roll out is also on track.

 I do agree that I would love more HD, but adding channels with hardly any content for the sake of adding a channel is lame too. I watch a lot of SciFi, but most of the HD is stretch-o-vision. FX would be nice, but Charlie is fighting with Fox. The providers are playing the numbers game, I have more HD than you, but I would like to see actual HD programming, not just a channel.

Yeah, sure. Does the mobile TV thing require a box for every cellphone? Maybe a satellite on top of cars? Or, just on top of buildings? Can you watch inside a building?

Just saying how ridiculous this idea is for DISH. When companies leave their core business, they forget the small things or get distracted then both operations are a failure. Plus, if you can only call where your cellphone likes, how can you watch TV everywhere?

Battery Not Included?

Will the new viewing device list standby time, talk time and VIEWING TIME. Would I have to carry a Two Pound auxiliary battery if I wanted to watch a Two Hour Movie. Before I would subscribe to mobile TV I would need a inflatable screen that would expand to 15 Inches. Amp'd Mobile was cute but I gave it no cigar while in business. I guess no one else did because it is now deceased.

Charlie must know best

Echostar must know something we dont. Last i heard, mobile TV is somewhat of a failure with people not willing to pay the additional $10+ for it. Charlie must have some other stats i have not seen yet.
