I have the DishNetwork HD-only package for $29.99/mo + Cinemax HD (5 channels) for $0.01/mo, and DVR for $5/mo + locals in HD for $5/mo - total comes to about $45/mo with taxes. And this 'deal' sticks for the next 2 years.
No way Comcast (the cable company where I live) can beat that. The nearest package they have will cost me close to a $100/mo. And to include that they dont even have a HD-only package - I dont watch SD at all anymore.

I have 4 tv's and two of them are hooked up to dvrs Dont really care about movie channels because they suck too. But for me to hook up 4 tv's not all hd just 2 it would cost me over 100 bucks I went to the website and checked.

1 edit | said by Dogfather : said by Dish Network : Starting August 1, Warner Bros. Pictures' blockbuster "I Am Legend" starring Will Smith will be available in 1080p resolution -- same as Blu-ray(R) Disc quality -- on DISH Network's VOD service, DISH On Demand, at a discounted price. Subscribers with MPEG-4 HD DVRs may order the movie on DISH Network Channel 501.
So we're to expect Blu-Ray quality? Sorry, I don't believe it. Of course it wouldn't be the first time I've been wrong but I will not believe it until I see actual bitrate (and other) data. Additionally, I'm curious as to whether that extends to audio as well. I can't imagine that they would also provide Dolby True HD and DTS-HD+MA. At least not without new STBs that could decode and/or bitstream these formats. It would sure be cool if they did though

| No broadband connected needed. The programming is going to be downloaded via sat. to the DVR HD and then it will be viewed from the HD. Once fully rolled out, a n umber of programs will always be available and new ones rotated in at various times. -- It is much easier to suggest solutions when you don't know too much about the problem. | They wouldn't be announcing it if that were true. Obviously it does support 1080p, just doesn't have it listed as supported because they didn't previously provide it. If the chips in the DVR are capable then all they needed was to update the software to handle it and I bet most of the IC's used in production support 1080p even if the provider doesn't implement the support. | |

| So which 1080p? said by »www.hdtvprimer.com/ISSUES/what_is_ATSC.html : What is 1080p? The term 1080p causes a lot of confusion because people are using it in conflicting ways: 1. The transmission formats 1080 24p and 1080 30p are sometimes called 1080p. But the term 1080p should never be used to refer to a transmission format.
2. If 1080p is to 1080i what 480p is to 480i then 1080p is a 60 frames per second monitor interface format. 1080 60p is becoming a common interface format. But since there are no 1080 60p sources, there is no need for it. (When a 24 frame source is converted to 1080i, no information is lost. A smart monitor can convert this 1080i into a perfect 1080 60p or 120p.)
3. When the maker of a digital display finds a way to improve upon 1080i he will usually say his display does 1080p. The improvement is often just a way to reduce flicker. The sets internally do 1080p but only accept 1080i at the interface.
If you want to be understood unambiguously, you should refrain from using the term 1080p. Instead use 1080p60, etc.

| How much space does 1080p moives take up? How much space does 1080p moives take up? At least the direct tv boxes have a e-sata port on them.
Dish just has usb and on the dish web site they say the boxes max out at 1080i.
What is a discounted price $3.99 $4.99 $5.99? for 24H rent?
red box costs less for the same time and you get the full DVD.

Depends on the compression. But 1080p/24 is 20% less data than 1080i/60!

| This can be between 10GB and 15GB for the 1080p/24 VOD Movies. You don't need to make any adjustment to the Receiver. If your TV Supports 1080p/24 then the Movie will play in 1080p/24 if not then it will be down converted to match that of your TV. So the settings in the HDTV Setup on the receiver will have no affect on the movie. -- BetaTech | |

| I will stay with Dish I have had Dish HD for 2 years-its better than anything else I have seen, in fact I have 2 HD receivers attached to 1080P sets so I am looking forward to seeing the new format. maybe Fios and Direct are just as good but their channel guide and event summaries suck compared to Dish. One button on the remote to do either quickly. Digital cable adds ads to the viewing and quality varies too much between channels. | |
