AT&T Adds VoIP to Network Services (old news - 03:16PM Tuesday Sep 04 2001) tags: business · telco
The long-distance phone giant said it has expanded and added more Voice over IP (VoIP) services for all of its global managed data network customers. Available in more than 40 countries to hundreds of businesses, the new service compresses voice calls into prioritized IP packets and routes them throughout each company's virtual private network on AT&T's network, the company said. Internet.com has the story.
They have Avaya's Definity platform for their voice system. Avaya is formerly Lucent Technologies' voice and data systems division. I work with the tech that did the upgrade to the Providence RI sales office on the Definity there. I did the upgrade to the Intuity (voice mail).
Maybe AT&T is blowing the dust off the old Northpoint Copper Mountain equipment? It would be nice if it had actual detail... -- -Mooooo!!! Barbecues are more fun than a clown on fire.
Will it be the same 784k SDSL for $50 a month? If it is (or anything near that, cya SGI, you've been great.. but hell, SDSL and 784k) :P -- -Mooooo!!! Barbecues are more fun than a clown on fire.
I don't think you'll ever see ATT sell dsl through partners like northpoint did. They will go direct to businesses and consumers through existing channels, sorry to dash your hopes just what I've heard. I used to work for NorthPoint btw - but am at the Death Star now (for the moment).
