'Wash your feet and take a nap' indeed
(old news - 01:12PM Monday Feb 06 2006)
tags: BBR-News · scam
"You want be a hero here? I advice you that wash your feet and take a nap your mommy waiting you," says the operator a Bank of America phishing scam, tracked down by users in our stopping scam forums.

As we mentioned a few weeks ago, one of our users dug through a web of identity theft, hijacked boxen and card fraud, ultimately tracking the culprit to an internet cafe in downtown Bandung - the capital city of West Java Province, Indonesia - about 100 miles southeast of Jakarta.

The scammer (who posts on various message boards via the name "Purisangeh") has apparently discovered the thread in our forums, and decided to sign up for an account. His post seems to indicate he's young, and hopes to net a job from his adventures in crime:

"around hundreds peoples around you doing spam. Why you not againts them near you ?? I have been seen your people, on my cyber cafe. You do not have enough proof to catch me. I hope I can see you as soon as possible, to disccuss our future. I can create all software using Delphi, Php, Asp, Visual Basic, C++. I am not studying in any university yet and i just graduated my senior high school. I am hacker? not true I just new baby born in the earth. Please advice me to be nice people."

If he is so talented

If your so damn talented why don't you get a proper way to show off your skills not commit crimes. Crime gets you NOWHERE in the IT field it just shuts doors.

Good Luck I hope you get out before you get caught and make somthing out of yourself. If you continue down the raod that you are on you will indeed fail and end up working @ a dead end job.

Yes they can.

Re: If he is so talented

Yes they can, I am just fed up with my kid's Elementary school for teaching Social Studies, Geography, Algebra, Health, Etc. before my kids know their times tables and can write complete sentences without being verbally scolded to do so. I guess I am old school, I expect them to know the basics before they learn how cranberries are grown and how cells are structured. I see stuff in their textbooks I saw in my college courses, yet the kids can't read their own sentence and realize it makes no sense.

Sorry for ranting LOL

Re: If he is so talented

Well, a while back, someone decided that teaching proper grammar was a thing of the past. I haven't had an actual lesson on grammar or spelling in school for as long as I can remember (I'm a high school senior now). The only reason I can read and write as well as I can today is that my parents started me at the age of three.
Apparently the idea is that students will learn grammar from their reading and from being corrected when they make mistakes in papers they write. I can tell you right now that this is bullsh!t, because 90% of the kids in my grade couldn't form a proper sentence in Standard Written English if you put a gun to their heads.

Kids don't write complete sentences because they don't feel like writing them out all the way since they usually have tons to write. It's not because they're not able to. If you know you have 30 spelling words to write 3 times, you don't want to waste your wrist writing every sentence completely. Don't you remember what it was like to be a kid?

As for the scammer, he really does sound retarded.

His bad english seems more of a spoof than anything to just deceive more. It's too perfectly crafted in a "wrong" way. My guess is he's not where it's thought he was tracked down to, he just has control of a pc there and uses it remotely.

Not always. I worked for two different companies who lured hackers into working for them by means of "honey pots".

pretend to hire him

If I were the FBI, I'd set this punk up by pretending to be a company that's interested in hiring him. During the discussion when talking about experience, get him to admit that he did the phishing scam. Then nail his ass.

Re: pretend to hire him

I doubt if the fbi gives a crap. As long as a sitting politician or a major company isnt attacked, its a back-burner issue. You could argue that phishers attack banks etc. but they are really attacking the customers. Banks simply pass the cost of fraud along to the honest customers with the blessing of the govt.

Nailing him. That's pretty close to the reality of what will happen to him if he is arrested. The police in Bandung will likely torture a confession out of him. Whether those bungling nimrods have the right person or not they will compel him/her to confess.

Hmm.....

How is it that the guy found MGD See Profile? I thought he was using a untraceable account? If this is truly a legit post then perhaps this kid deserves a little more credit for tracking him down? (Don't get me wrong, he's still a worthless p.o.s.)

Re: Hmm.....

Couldn't the low-life phisher just have checked his referrer logs? In the first post of that thread, you can go to the phishing site via a link. Since MGD See Profile publicly stated he was having fun with the kid on the forums, that's enough info right there to track the untraceable e-mails to him.

Or, the phisher could Google a portion of the text in the e-mail and it'd be linked to that thread.

Stupid

Congrats BBR, you just gave this guy what he wanted most -- exposure. Why do you think he was Googling it in the first place? He actively WANTS to be associated with it. He wants a rep.

Why not just let the illiterate fool rot in obscurity, which is precisely what would drive him the most insane?

Re: Stupid

I believe he was pointed to the thread after the story was posted, Either by email or his Yahoo IM id that was listed.

There wasn't much on Google at the time he posted, and he did not have much of a reason to search it.

I also believe that he was/is at the cafe, as his emails came from more than one IP in the range.

I believe the publicity is beneficial, he was been doing this for a while, and he maybe part of a group. The chances of phishers being charged by law enforcement is remote at best, and maybe the publicity will hasten his demise.

So you think his scam should have been ignored? I see where you are coming from and it does have merit, but I think what the people who busted them are doing has more merit.

Actually, I doubt that scammers want exposure. They would prefer to operate in the shadows under the radar of law enforcement and the public consciousness. As long as they do that, they can fool people into thinking that their sites are legit and they can continue to scam money from the hapless users. The minute that their scams are brought to light, pressure increases from law enforcement and, more damaging to them, it becomes harder to fool people. The more attention their scams get, the more people will be on the lookout for them and the less people will fall for them.

This guy claims that his aim is to eventually get a job in IT, but no (legitimate) company that I know of would risk the bad PR of hiring a known crook like this. So go ahead and publicize this guy's scams. It'll ruin his scams now and ruin his chances of parlaying them into an IT job later.

You'd be surprised in who the FBI, and other feds will recruit. And they do. And some are actually pretty good.

If you are in a place where you are good at something, and really good (or atleast rough enough) and someone notices, you could be real useful. Look at ukraine and some slovak proggies. Mafia sees them as golden geese. Get to them before the law enforcement does.

Who knows, with proper direction and education, they could be useful. I mean, how many of you are self-made scammers that are under the radar, not paranoid, doing someting for your country, supporting loved ones and able to prove the income is legit?

Just sayin.;)
