I did the math and for the price of 1 PS3 base unit ($499.99) with *NO* games, you could buy:
- 1 Wii Console (includes Wiimote Controller, Nunchuck Controller, and 1 game)
- 1 extra Wiimote
- 1 extra Nunchuck
- 3 games
- 3 N64 Wii Shop games
- 1 SNES Wii Shop game
And you would still have two bucks and change left over.
If you don't care about "high end" features like HDTV or Blue Ray (and I daresay that the majority of people out there don't care about them), then the Wii seems to have the best bang for the buck.
(Of course, I'm not a gamer and don't have $500 to spend on a console system no matter who makes it. So none of the big 3 will really be able to entice me to buy no matter how good the system is.  ) | |

Pffft!!! no really, you have seen the bizarre series of events that surrounds the PS3 right. Seriously, Sony doesn't have the time to wait for developers to figure out how to code for the cell.
As released it's going to be a slightly slower XB360. Developers who want to spend the time and money can theoretically get better performance on PS3; but how many developers are going to invest that time...keep in mind the massive wall of "minimum necessary to get it to work" ports there are on the PC. Now realize your hedging your bets that developers are suddenly going to decide to properly port code to the cell, an architecture that appears to be harder to work with than PC. Wait for your PS3, but don't be surprised if the majority of what you get are straight XB360 ports; which won't run as fast on PS3 as they did on 360.

Actually Wii has better power behind it. Sony did somthing wrong in the programming of the "video card" (I lost my memory here, that is why I did that) so the video and processor doesn't communicate correctly. And plus bigger discs (blue ray) doesn't mean better graphics, it just means more gameplay. But seriously who would like to play a 500 hour game? PS3 won't rule them all. More people are out to buy the xbox 360 then they are anything else for two reasons....It isn't going to be as expensive as the PS3 and it has more mature games than the Wii. So if I was going to say that any of them are going to rule it would be the xbox 360. And no I am not an xbox fan, I am more of a Nintendo fan than anything. And if I do say that Nintendo isn't going to get more mature games under their belt, they are going to go under. | |

The Wii remote will cost $39.99; the nun-chuck $19.99 and the classic controller about $20.
That means I will have to spend 60US for an extra Wii controller being as I need one so my wife can play too. Hell 80 by the time you count the VC controller. What a shitty ass price point for it all. Hell it will be over 100 cdn. Damn Canada. God M$ Sony or N can't seem to get this shit right. Think I will just keep playing this gens games plus WOW for a good while.

Wow.
If this is how the Nintendo fanboys rationlize their system over, say the PS3, then wow!
The Wii cannot be compared to the PS3 spec wise, library wize (even if all the old ass NES games, which most gamers still have, were included) hell it just cannot be compared too. Period. The Wii will not be able to run, say, Metal Gear Solid 4 or the next GTA. All games ported over to the Wii will have to be downgraded.
Hence the $250 price point. | |

| The games will look pretty much the same on up to 480p. The only reason the 360 and PS3 need such high-end technology in their system is because of the small chance that someone with an HDTV will come along. Rendering at 853x480 is a LOT less intensive than rendering at, say, 1280x720 or 1920x1080, and as such, can be done with a lot weaker of a processor with the same results (at 480p).

| you all forget one thing... well, some noticed, and I'll explain further in a minute...
Load times. Amazingly fast on a GC. And, IMHO, their graphics beat the pants off of a ps2 with most games. Far less pixellated, much smoother, more depth.
Now, for a short history lesson. Playstation emerged because Nintendo wanted a disc based system... they hired Sony to make the drive. PS1's cd-rom was what, 2x? Pathetic. Horrible load times, and PS2 wasn't much better at loading games. Nintendo wasn't having it, they wanted near instant loading from a disc, like the rom carts. Sony said 'ok, whatever' and put out the Playstation, and made it a hit.
Gamecube finally comes along and has 2 things NO other console has... very fast load times, and very fast RAM. I think it was Matsushita that ended up making the disc drive on GC, and hey, it had WAY less problems than ANY playstation's have... hmm...
I'm very surprised no geek here has noticed that the GC used 1-T RAM. Any true geek should instantly realize how much faster this is compared to any amount of standard DRAM. So what if it didn't have quite the processing power of an Xbox... it still had graphics that were closer to that than PS2... amount wasn't as important to them as speed.
Sure, lots of gamers won't buy a wii, but tons of others will. It may not be clocked as fast as a supercomputer, but I would be willing to bet its graphics are so much faster and smoother than most expect. I'm not saying they'll be HD ultra crazy good, but it'll be at least twice as good as the GC, and most certainly better than a standard Xbox.
Don't underestimate the Wii because of the obvious spec's, this thing will still have extremely fast memory, better, newer chips that aren't just 'hyped up' GC chips, and likely some very good control. Sure, Nintendo's probably not going to have Rockstar games, but there will still be tons of fun.
Looking forward to it. Hoping the control is all it's hyped to be and getting old games will be simple. Also, I hope they go with free online gaming. Don't see much point spending more money on yet another subscription just to game with friends over a net connection we already both pay for.
Oh, and for the record, screw xbox. 360 seems a lot better, sure, but I don't care.
I'd rather spend more money on a ps3 just because MS/intel don't make it.
Heck, I think I'll skip 'em both, for now, and wait on the new Nintendo. They know their consoles, it's what they've been doing for decades. | |

I guess I'm too late to this news. But I'll be getting a Wii. With money being very low right now, it's my only option. I was thinking about an Xbox 360. But with no broadband, I'll wait. I know the Wii will only be broadband connectivity. But I hope all will be good. The games will only be $50, which is really neat. Hope to get a Wii for this Christmas.

2: not at launch. I learned my lesson.
3: I think Nintendo should wait until the first few weeks of December. The Christmas season will be huge, and if the Wii can sell strong at that time, especially given that 360's been out for some time, it will speak mounds for Nintendo's approach. | |
