Others tooAgain reminding you all that Helio and some other carriers had ~$100 unlimited plans for a while now. so it's not all that groundbreaking.

Re: Others tooHelio and Cricket are the two I've seen mentioned as already having unlimited plans. I've tried both, and returned both. Helio was a little better than cricket, but the cripled Bluetooth the "top" Ocean phone was enough to really piss me off.

Re: Others tooThey are. But oddly enough, while my Virgin Mobile (also rides on sprint) gets great reception, often better than sprint phones themselves, the Helio was horrible. And it's not just one particular VM phone that I've had good luck with, every single one of them has worked in areas people's sprint phones can get a signal in.

Yep, called them to fix a couple of sign on pin errors. What should have happened other then they took care of it? That dark thing above your head? It's a cloud. I think for the most part, at least the past few months, when people call Sprint, they're already expecting the worst and sometimes create the problem themselves or get confrontational before they make it past the 2nd ring. If we all blew off ANYPLACE that provided bad customer service, we would eat at home more often, stay out of bars, walk instead of drive cars and stare at the walls.

Re: GO SPRINT!Understandable, but my point was simply that they are infamous for poor customer service. If you weren't in the Coast Guard, I'd think you were a shrink the way you over-analyzed that

Re: GO SPRINT!Hey, unlike some people here, I've had the chance to live all over the place, HI, CA, FL, WI, MI, CT, KY... I've experienced a whole page of different cable providers, eaten in many different establishments and have had various credit cards, so maybe that's why I don't get my hanes in a bunch when I see something wrong with my cell bill, my cable bill or insurance premiums. I call and act like an adult to get the problem fixed. The infamous part is not indigenous to Sprint. I've been blessed with visiting a Verizon retail store. Sometimes, I think the morons all come from the same womb. p.s., I'm retired.

Oh, I completely agree with that. Billing errors aren't what I was referring to, though. I understand in this world of computers, shit - and billing errors - happen. I've read a lot of stories on the internet, however, that make it clear that Sprint's problem is getting the issue fixed. From what I've heard, even trying to get to a human is a pain in the ass. Then trying to get them to understand and attempt to fix the problem is a bigger pain.

Sprint's CEO said a few weeks ago that they are preparing to deploy some 'nukes'. Wow if this happens.... » news.yahoo.com/s/nm/2008 ··· icing_dcquote: NEW YORK (Reuters) - No. 3 U.S. mobile service provider Sprint Nextel Corp (S.N) is expected to offer flat-rate calling plans at up to a 40 percent discount to its rivals, hurtling the industry into a price war, analysts said on Wednesday.
Sprint has yet to respond, but analysts say it could be considering an unlimited calling plan for as low as $60 a month in a bid to stem customer defections.
If something like this happens, I imagine roaming will become complicated again.

Your $50 is a statewide only plan. Travel outside of state coverage area and you will get ding'd for roaming or LD charges I bet.

If they were smart....They'd go exactly the opposite direction. "Unlimited" plans tend to attract only those people who are going to really use them, yet the income is capped.
On the other hand, there are a lot of people like me who don't use ENOUGH minutes to justify even the lowest plan.
They really should come out with something like $15/150minute and $20/200minute plans, and then rape people on the overage.

Re: If they were smart....A lot of fully credit worthy people are going with prepaid because of their low volume. There is definitely a market for well crafted low end plans with roll over, or even a zero minute plan for $10 and ten cents a minute for each minute.
I put my parents on my family plan because I was nauseated that they were paying $35 a month for two minutes a month of phone calls. They never used their minutes.
We live on the Canadian border and back when FIDO had the $8 a month plan with no minutes, but a decent rate we subscribed for our cross-border trips. Many months we only went through 60 minutes a month, but there were other months where we racked up 1,000 minutes in Canada.
I think one of the problems for carriers is not whether they have a profitable stream from a customer, but whether they can show a near guaranteed future stream. I think this is as important for accounting purposes and actual dollars earned.

I went with Virgin mobile Pay-As-You-Go. I rarely use the phone, so $20 every 3 months does fine for me! Sprint network so I'm pretty well covered here in The Bay Area.

Re: Hello!I use Virgin Mobile pre-paid also since I almost never use my cell phone. It's just nice to have if I'm traveling or going out to meet people. I pay $15 every 90 days... so about $5 a month, 18 cents a minute. If you're signed up for Minute2Minute or 18¢ TALK, here's how you can keep your account running for less!
Sign up for one of our $15 Auto Top-Up options and instead of having to add $20 every 90 days to keep your service working, you'll only need to add $15. For small talkers, that can work out to a $20 break over the year.

Re: Hello! No credit cards... no chance of Auto Top-Up. Thanks for the tip though! Still, at $20 every 3 months(90 days), this is the best option going, for me! Running on Sprint means I get pretty good coverage here in The S.F. Bay Area. Thanks again! David

tmobile article mentioned above
(Corrects spelling of spokesmans surname in paragraph 2)
NEW YORK (Reuters) - T-Mobile USA, owned by Deutsche Telekom AG (DTEGn.DE: Quote, Profile, Research), said on Tuesday it would offer unlimited text messaging and voice calls for $99.99 a month, starting on Thursday February 21.
The company's current offerings include unlimited text messaging for $14.99 and 5,000 minutes of calls for $129.99, according to spokesman Peter Dobrow.
The fourth biggest U.S. mobile service unveiled the plan hours after its two biggest rivals AT&T Inc (T.N: Quote, Profile, Research) and Verizon Wireless announced unlimited voice plans for $99.99.

Screw upDid Sprint screw up announcing this before finalizing anything. Or was this a calculated risk to see what others would charge then go in and undercut them.

MetroPCS, Cricket, Revol are good for someThere are some who can't, or don't, leave their metro area very often, if at all. Cricket/MetroPCS/Revol (or any other "unlimited PCS" carrier) makes sense for these folks. Why pay for nationwide service and roaming that you can't use (or won't use very much)?
And for those who do occasionally venture out of town, there's always Page Plus, Virgin Mobile or Alltel U prepaids to fill the void (cheapest if they can get a hold of a used basic phone).

Re: MetroPCS, Cricket, Revol are good for somesaid by slyphoxj:There are some who can't, or don't, leave their metro area very often, if at all. Cricket lives on the fact that some people never travel as far as the city limits of their own town; primarily those in lower socioeconomic groups. In even a mid-sized city (100,000 or more), that's more users than you might think. Any one of the major cell-phone carriers could increase their market share significantly if slowly if they really understood customer service, but none of them do - or ever will. They think it's all about their reps acting polite and friendly. If I have an issue I want resolved, I'd rather get someone dry and professional who knows what they're doing than someone friendly who doesn't have a clue and I end up getting transferred 4 or 5 times to wrong departments.

crap servicegreat price at&t! now if u can only offer good service as well.
|

stay away from at&t.bad service and dropped calls are just the beginning.. the cost savings from minor carriers being bought up & the analog roaming network dying added up to the cost savings that allow for $99 unlimited voice. I'd stay a bit longer on the sidelines until wireless carriers include unlimited text, data/web features for the same or lower price. The current plans are just throwing the public a bone...
Local unlimited plans (at half ~$50) are nearly worthless because of wifi enabled phones.
