AT&T Ends DSL Metered Billing Trials, Forgets To Tell Anyone
Internal memo confirms April 1 end to metered billing ambitions...
by Karl Bode 09:40AM Tuesday Jun 15 2010
Back In February we noted that AT&T appeared to be shutting down their metered billing trials in both Reno, Nevada and Beaumont, Texas. Insiders at the time informed Broadband Reports that the shut down was largely due to the high costs of support and systems needed to make the shift (though Time Warner Cable's PR disaster likely also played a role). AT&T wouldn't officially confirm to us that the trials were dead -- only that they were no longer signing up new users. Stop The Cap talked to one user who claims an AT&T support rep read from an official document confirming that AT&T's metered billing trials did officially end on April 1. For whatever reason AT&T chose not to tell anyone -- including those involved in the trial.

Savin' money

They never really announced it starting to their customers either, did they?

It looks like the savings from stopping all those broadband hogs wasn't enough to justify the metering.

Hrm

I remember when people were predicting that AT&T was going to institute caps. Now, from the way it looks, they aren't going to do it for a while, if ever. Those pundits and predictors are not talking right now.

If there is anything to be learned from this, it is to just wait until something is announced and written before doing the chicken little impersonation.

I think it's safe to say that if it wasn't for all those "chicken little impersonations" a lot of us would be dealing with UBB right now. I think the real lesson is if you don't want to be gouged by your ISP then you'd better make your voice heard.

Thats a stretch. Making your voice heard isn't one though.

They're waiting till customers accept it in the wireless market. AT&T is charging the way. (Low caps, high overages.)

Once the sheeple have accepted it as normal in the wireless sector, they'll once again re-introduce it into the wired business.

The huge profit potential from raiding wallets will be too great for them to resist.

Why is this important?

Nothing happened why is this even a story. They ran a trial and choose not to do caps. It would have been a story if they had decided to put on the caps.
Talk about making mountains out of mole hills.

Upgrade Infrastructure!

They should be upgrading infrastructure instead of fooling around with caps. Damn you AT&T and my 3mbps!
