Just wanted to report that AT&T 3G just went live today in Portland Maine (Maine's biggest city). This is the first AT&T 3G deployment in Maine so it is exciting. I read that AT&T is investing about $15M in upgrading and building out Maine's AT&T network so this must be part of that. It is great! I just noticed it on my iPhone and a friend of mine confirms he is getting 3G on his iPhone as well." Andy's right that AT&T, in August, promised they'd spend $15 million on Maine's wireless network, including the deployment of HSDPA to 79 cell sites in Cumberland, Sagadahoc and York Counties.

Mount Airy, MD | Stronger Signal Too? AT&T recently expanded 3G to where I live as well. One thing I immediately noticed is that our phones now work in all of the basement of my house, as opposed to before when they would just not get signal at all. The signal I get in my basement is EDGE, however.

I actually drove to Portland Monday morning to go to the Apple Store and visit ATT also. Along the way, it was all Edge. It was even Edge when I was in the ATT store. By the time I got to the Apple store on the other end of the Mall, when I was showing the Apple clerk something on my iPhone, it was 3G. Literally, within 5 minutes, someone flipped a switch.
It was 3G all the way back, until I reached Lincoln County again. | |
