AT&T Jumps Into VoIP
Beta tests phone service, upgrades network
by Karl Bode Friday 12-Sep-2003 tags: business · VoIP
AT&T is moving forward with a "bring your own access" VoIP service dubbed AT&T Consumer Digital Solutions, that's currently in beta. Mentioned in our VoIP forum this week, the service was confirmed by AT&T Chairman David Dorman, speaking at the Morgan Stanley Global Media & Communications Conference in Boston. According to the product's website, the trial will be ongoing until February 29, 2004. AT&T announced yesterday that the company will be spending $3 billion in capital expenditures this year in order to transform the company's existing network into an IP-based network. That project is expected to be completed sometime in 2005.

"SORRY ...

Obviously, I don't meet the requirement to be in bed with Microsoft.

Time to cash out!

Maybe Vonage needs to sell out before they become irrelevant now that the big dogs are stepping in.......

Oh I wouldn't be so hasty. If there's a way to screw up VoIP, AT&T will certainly figure out how to do it... and lose hundreds of millions of dollars in the process.

Vonage?! what about the bells?

Most people out there have never heard of Vonage let alone know about VOIP.

What happens when AT&T puts the full force of its marketing machine behind targeting Arnie and Flo in the podunk USA, to get them to cruise over to the new tech?

well nothing cause more than likely that don't have BB.
I also can see this as far as ATT "agents" signing people up without saying anything about 911. Which we all know would be really bad.

Probably the same thing that has happened to many of their other "innovative" services: they circle the drain for awhile before finally dying.

Think about it: AT&T has transformed itself from a ubiquitous telecommunications monolith to "jack-shit" in under 25 years... most impressive.

Is this for real? beta.ataclick.com = AT&T?

What's up with that very non-AT&T URL for the "product", beta.ataclick.com? To whom am I sending my info when I sign up?

Qualify?

I signed up and was told I would hear in 4 to 5 weeks if I qualify? Does everyone have to wait that long and what are they looking for to qualify?
