| | Unfortunate Outage I guess this is why I have to pay $70 a month for regular 'ol basic unlimited nationwide landline phone service from AT&T. It appears VOIP isn't up to the challenge. My POTS line hasn't failed in over 10+ years. But, that could just be luck. | |

Too much of a hassle to send in the ORIGINAL bill.. Why they need the ORIGINAL is beyond my limited comprehension
|
| | | You should only be paying $45 a month for ANALOG AT&T unlimited nationwide calls. I just called to switch our digital back to analog landline. Not sure why they are charging you $70. But these outages haven't just been phone outages for us; they've been Internet instability, too. First, we're switching the phone lines back to analog. Then, we'll see if other services improve but the decreased draw on the bandwidth. | |

| Re: This is why... I offered her to transfer our POTS line number to a cell and pay about $15/mo instead of $25/mo and have long distance. Nope, the complaint I then got was, what if the cell towers don't work during the next Hurricane, blah, blah. Frankly it is a weak excuse. Maybe after this hurricane season I will try again to reason with her. | |
|
| | (yeah for me) I gambled correctly! I was hesitant about ditching u-verse voice a few months back after the last local outage...but I switched to Ooma and so far so good! (happy today!)
I'm sure I won't be happy when Ooma tanks for some reason like this though...

No biggie... have a couple of cell phones if we need them or worst case use Skype. Granted, if this were to become a long-term issue, then that would not be acceptable.

| | VOIP is not as reliable as POTS!!! No surprise here! The low prices come at another price, reliability, and issues will happen. | |
|
| | About VOIP I am sorry but POTS will be gone in about 5 years and VOIP is the new POTS. Most of your cable and smaller telcos are using VOIP instead of POTS. | |
|
| | | Re: About VOIP I do not disagree. I use VOIP but do not expect the same reliability as POTS for now. | |

| | AP Wire Story BC-US-TEC--AT&T-Phone Outage Widespread outage for AT&T's digital phone lines Eds: APNewsNow. Will be led. NEW YORK (AP) - AT&T's new digital home phone service failed across the country Tuesday. Customers of AT&T Inc.'s U-Verse Voice say their landline phones have had no dial tones since the morning. Reached by cell phone, the customers say those who call them get a message that the line has been disconnected. Support personnel are telling customers that a server crash brought down the service in AT&T's entire 22-state local-phone service area. AT&T spokeswoman Mari Melguizo says service was being restored in the afternoon, though some customers are still affected. U-Verse Voice sends calls over the customer's Internet connection, making it technically similar to independent services such as Vonage. AT&T said in January that it had signed up more than 1 million U-Verse Voice customers. | |

Double-Whammy! I had to use my Verizon cell phone to talk to u-Verse customer service about the mistake on my u-Verse bill and to call tech support to find out the about the voice line troubles. Oh, the irony...
|
| | . . .service has been restored for all users ??? I do not think so! A friend north of Chicago still does not have his land line working. This has been going on since at least noon today. Thank God he has a cell phone for emergency. | |

WhatNowPremium join:2009-05-06 Charlotte, NC | Where is their backup plan It is hard to believe 1 server crashing caused this unlees they are so cheap they only had one server. I could see a problem for just minutes or up to a half hour at the most. As someone stated at&t Call-Advantage did not have this problem so they know how to build a redundant stable network. They are in the network business and this is the second time in the last few days they have dropped large parts of the u-verse voice network.
