Re: sosaid by thegeek:probably, so that everyone who got one of those and wants the new one will have to pay full price for it I think it is because of the impending launch, but I don't think it has to do with locking people into a contract right before the new model drops. A more likely reason is that AT&T wants to clear as much inventory as possible, since the 3GS will be about as popular as week-old sushi after the new model hits the stores. They'll sell what they can and keep any remaining units as warranty replacements.

Re: I submit the followingI agree. My 1024x768 SVGA Monitor from awhile ago could do (technically) 720p.
I wonder what the Apple 30" Cinema Display would be considered (2560x1600)..

Re: I submit the followingIt's gotten worse with wide-screen LCD panels on most laptops being only 1280x800. The 14" ThinkPad I got back in 2005 was 1400x1050 and I cannot find a replacement for it with a similar resolution.

Hmmm...My two year upgrade is coming up in July...I may be picking one of these up just to make my boss jealous. He's an Apple super fan and is always showing off his i-phone and saying how much he loves it. I've never taken the plunge and gotten one personally, but the envious look on his face may be worth the price of admission!

So what? This is nothing really new. There is no details on new features of if other carriers are going to carry it, so to me this is pretty pointless.

hopes & dreamsI hope at&t's network crumbles to itty-bitty peices with all the HD video users send one another. By all means Watson, take many, many pictures at full 5MP resolution and email them to all your friends.

Re: hopes & dreamsI've seen a quick decline in the performance of Verizon 3G since the Motorola Droid came out. Before I got one, I was limited by my phones, now I'm limited by the actual network, which is disappointing.

Here Verizon used to be the best, I had them and got speed's of 2.5mbps down and over 500k up. Now they are pathetically slow with speed's slowing down to 100kbps, slower than AT&T's EDGE. And voice quality here declined as well a lot.

There's no way a 3G wireless network will support real time HD video. On WiFi, maybe, but there's not enough Wireless spectrum and there never will be, unless there is a cell site on every light pole.

Re: hopes & dreamssupposedly ATT is going to upgrade some markets to HSPA+. They've gone back and forth about HSPA+ so often that it may still not happen, but if it does, and they continue improving backhauls, they may well be able to be able to stream highly compressed ~720p video.

Have you seen the AT&T 3G Expansion plan for TN yet? I know for a fact in Alabama they are upgrading 250+ cell site's to have 3G and 75+ Brand new cell site's, they will have almost the entire state of AL blanketed with 3G this year which is VERY impressive to me.

My Predictionquote: The phone will be available for purchase in June, not July, and from what weve heard, it wont even be late June.
My guess is that it would be similar to last year's launch of 3GS; if it does get announced on June 7th, they will start taking mail-in pre-orders and Apple Store reservations immediately after the announcement. Also, there was a story stating that AT&T moved upgrade eligibility for current iPhone customers to June 21st, so the new iPhone will probably go on sale on that date. This is also consistent with last year, 3GS went on sale around 2 weeks after the announcement.
|
| |
Re: My PredictionYep. Got my 3gs last Oct and I'm eligiable for an upgrade in June (it doesn't say when exactly) but it does mention the iPhone or smart phone or something. I won't get a big discount according to it either although a discount will be provided and I have to commit to a 2yr contract.

HD Video iPhone, eh?And I bet AT&T will restrict these to the ridiculously small 5GB monthly data cap, too.
Yea, a weekend of Youtube on their 3G would pretty much exceed that limit about as quickly as Tyrone Biggums finishes a key of crack.

iPhone 3GI just bought a new iPhone 3G 8GB for $380 jailbroken, and I'm going to unlock it and use it on T-Mobile.
|
| |
Re: iPhone 3GI have to hope that you're joking or otherwise being sarcastic... since of course you know that you're going to be trapped on EDGE if you're using it on T-Mobile.
You could have bought any 3G T-Mobile smartphone new without a contract direct from T-Mobile for the same price you paid for your iPhone.
