AT&T West Employees Working, But Threaten Strike
As Two Sides Try to Hash Out New Contract
by Karl Bode 08:19AM Thursday Mar 28 2013
AT&T West employees in California and Nevada are currently reporting to work, but have threatened to strike if they can't strike a new deal with AT&T. According to Southern California Public Radio, the 18,000 workers and CWA members rejected a new contract proposal from AT&T last week over wages and benefits. As is usually the case, AT&T says they have a "contingency workforce of well-trained managers and vendors" to handle the workload disruption if a strike happens, though a strike will of course mean major delays in DSL and U-Verse installs and repairs.

Re: Boycott att

That's a great idea. Boycott T, then you guys sign the contract, T's stock drops, you get laid off as a result of cuts.

I hate greedy unions who are destroying this county's working class and forcing jobs to china and india but I also hate AT&T.

Re: Boycott att

Actually it is greedy INCOMPETENT CEOs, MANGLEMENT, and BoDs that are REALLY DESTROYING COMPANIES.

Even when these executives DO NOT PERFORM and leave companies in shambles THEY STILL GET LARGE GOLDEN PARACHUTES, and NUMEROUS OTHER UNDESERVED PERKS, leave the rank and file employees to clean up the mess.

Re: Boycott att

I am no fan of AT&T, it is a massive blob of greed and corruption but like the CEOs you just mentioned, the fat greedy slobs running most unions don't give a damn about employees. Its all about union dues and huge salaries for themselves.

These union slobs leech companies dry with their obscene wage and benefit demands. Companies that are fortunate enough to survive end up outsourcing to Mexico, China and India leaving Americans out of work and out of luck. The unlucky ones end up like Hostess.

Don't get me started on public employee unions but unlike businesses which depend on revenue, their money comes directly from taxpayers like myself so its an endless cash flow.

I spit on large unions and AT&T. They can both go to hell.

...Oh, gotta love how they destroy small companies but turn a blind eye to massive non-union corporations like Google. You know some union slob's hand is getting greased to look the other way.

CWA

Whats interesting is CWA is scheduled to return to the table with Centurylink (The old Qwest areas). This talks started late last year and then were delayed until next month.

That puts the telcos at odds with CWA over the entire western part of the country.

Re: CWA

Am hearing that Frontier is facing a CWA strike as well in their Midwest region as they are asking for $2.50/hr pay cuts, ending their pension plans, and increasing employee contributions to health care/raising deductibles. Verizon East still has not settled upon a contract to the best of my knowledge, so it seems that Telcos are at odds with their workers throughout the country. The assault on workers just continues as the suits keep padding their pay and incentives.

My usual response to the CWA...

Booooooo Fu*king Hooooooo.

I'll have a small amount sympathy when I stop hearing the phrase "That's not my job" from CWA techs.

Interesting Plan

At&T forces union to walk out, contingency workforce only maintains U-Verse... PSTN, DSL is ignored and allowed to crumble (maybe even helped by alleged 'Union Saboteurs'). When all is said and done, PSTN is 'beyond repair' and abandoned, the whole thing blamed on the union. Sounds like AT&T's hurricane Sandy to me.

Same here. No longer Union, but companies like ATT is why we need them.

All about greed

Turn down the 8 percent wage because some employees at another company can get paid more.

Re: All about greed

Not just "get paid more." If you read the original story about the negotiations, AT&T techs only get TWO-THIRDS of what Verizon techs make.

It is all about greed, I agree. But you'll find it in the suits getting paid for sipping martinis and playing golf.

Get the wireless tower out of our rural community/state

while you're at it, tell AT&T to take down their wireless towers and get them out of the rural communities and our states. We can decide to build our own broadband or just live without it like the Mennonites.

Wireless tower causes cancer. Get those towers out of here.
