i found it amusing how only critical source used in that newsy article is
quoting a guy who sells anti-virus solutions, while he has no way to sell
solutions for most iot devices due to their small proprietary os & cpu.he's warning you about cameras pointed at consumers that few iot have,
he makes the assumption that it's easy to "get behind a router firewall"
and that normal iot use patterns of change and latency may be a hacker
when in fact there are so many other common reasons for such things.
this moron's only advice is to tape over cameras or disconnect iot devices,
instead of the far more useful advice of updated and upgrading routers,
and making sure you disable the privacy compromising features of iot,
something the average lazy tech ignorant consumer takes for granted,
or naively trusts their ISP or iot maker to deal with on their behalf.
of course, if this moron could sell you anything to protect your network
he'd be using this FUD to market that to you
instead of nonsense.
recent features people should be looking for in a new router may include;
