This is probably exactly why there hasn't been an official announcement yet -- because obviously even AT&T doesn't know the details of their own offers. From what I read of the original article, it sounds to me like AT&T was required to offer this promo as a result of their BellSouth acquisition... maybe they were only required to extend it to former BellSouth customers.

The letter reads in part: Within six months of the Merger Closing Date, and continuing for at least 30 months from the inception of the offer, AT&T/BellSouth will offer to retail consumers in the Wireline Buildout Area, who have not previously subscribed to AT&T's or BellSouth's ADSL service, a broadband Internet access service at a speed of up to 768 Kbps at a monthly rate (exclusive of any applicable taxes and regulatory fees) of $ 10 per month.

| This cannot be true because I am a former Bellsouth customer and they would not let me sign up for it. They told me I would have to keep on paying 24.99/mo for the lite service and that the 10.00/mo service was only being offered to NEW customers. I then asked about having mine cut off and cut back on and they told me that would be a 60 day process. RIGHT! | |

| check out the bellsouth DSL page - the lowest tier they offer (768k/128k) is currently "limited time offer!" for $19.95 ("regular" price was $24.95). I think when I checked this out for my dad (they live in bellsouth territory), you have to be a new customer and sign up for a year contract to get this "limited time offer!" special price.
It seems they are trying to lock in as many new customers as possible at twice the $10 rate before people know there is a $10 rate.
They will acknowledge the $10 rate if you ask (I asked thru an online chat rep), but only the $19.95 rate is advertised on the web page.
