So how does this work? Can AT&T Carry 3G-4G, Wifi, or WiMax over the 700Mhz line? If they can than I'm one happy guy.

Re: So how does this work?Naw, they'll probably use it for teleporting services. More money to be made beaming people around rather then data.

12 MHz isn't exactly 'huge'. Most standard PCS license are 10MHz. In most markets (any that have 3G anyways), AT&T typically has at least 45MHz of cellular/PCS spectrum Here's the license map » www.alohapartners.net/im ··· 1-05.pdf

Re: So how does this work?$2.5B is a lot to pay for 14Mhz.
Sprint has 100mhz in the 2.5Ghz spectrum and now doesn't know what to do with it.

My guess is that they will offer Wi-Max on the IPhones and as an alternate to their traditional Internet services. They won't be able to switch their existing cell customers to Wi-Max until other carriers offer the same for roaming purposes.

Re: So how does this work?AT&T doesn't have coverage in all areas that I work in. Sometimes I roam on Alltell, etc. AT&T doesn't have a true nationwide network.

AT$T bought it from another company BEFORE the auction. Chances are Google is waiting for the auction or just doesnt want to spend the $$$$

This isnt helpingATT could own the entire spectrum but they still couldn't deliver a wireless network that doesn't suck as much as theirs does.
And I'm in the greater Los Angeles area and not in the boonies and I can't even get calls that don't drop while driving down major freeways.
Way to go ATT. I think your priorities are whacked.
How about customer demand for a wireless network that isn't sucktastic in major metroplitan areas??? Growing demand? How about serving the people you already have in a decent manner?
Insert Democratic yell here. Arg.

Re: This isnt helpingI'm in Los Angeles (Valencia), and have had AT&T for wireless since they were 'AT&T Wireless'... If you want 'good' quality on AT&T's wireless network.. 1. Use a 3G phone 2. If you have a Motorola or LG (CU500), disable the AMR-half rate codec. AMR-Half rate blows chunks: AT&T won't accept half a payment... why use half rate quality. Seem edit your Motorola (V anything) » xlr8.us/hofo

I would be happy if they would fix my 3G connection. What's the point of them getting all this new stuff when they can't even get what they currently have working! at&t killed my AT&T 3G service! » forums.wireless.att.com/ ··· id=55356

Re: I would be happy if they would fix my 3G connection.AT&T (probably won't admit much) dropped the ball when they did their 'alpha tag update' and killed many users SIM cards and overall service. I've been one of the lucky ones... no issues here.

hmmAtt quality depends on where you live. Here on long island att service is the same as verizons. (we are on an island so not alot of places to put towers)
I rather them use this for data. MY call quality is very good but data stinks. I wish they would get off their butts and finish deploying 3g to long island.

Different auctionThe Lower 700mhz band was auctioned off in '03 (Auction #49) it consists of 2 6mhz chunks @ 710-716 and 740-746. Auction #73 is the one generating all the hype right now and is not scheduled to occur until Jan. of next year.
We are currently utilizing the spectrum using WaveIP equipment to provide broadband to rural portions of Missouri.

Anyone have a Cigar handy?? Cigar's name is now AT&T. ....and we have the DNA results to prove it. Hillary is completely ecstatic about having more bars in her places.
