Adelphia Considers Adding Adult Channels I am sorry Adelphia feels the need to carry this trash to make ends meet. It is indeed sad when you feel you have to have hardcore porn to make ends meet. I will keep Adelphia, but I will definitely let them know my displeasure if they decide to do this. » www.calendarlive.com/top/1,1419,···,00.html

| LA Centre of the Vice industry I think its excellent. Those that want to take a moral stance on this do not have to watch it, Those that do can pay and put more money into Adelphia coffers which will benefit all Adelphia subscribers. Los Angeles being the center of the US vice industry will be extremely happy I am sure.

I wouldn't imagine the channels they would carry could be any worse than what's on Cinemax in the wee hours. It's a premium service that you have to pay for. Also, I would imagine they would only offer it with digital cable, so you can put that parental lock on your box to good use should you decide that you do want the channels but want to keep the kids away. Just remember, that stuff they show is how you got those kids in the first place
You may not like it, but just like 90% of the other junk that comes out of the idiot box, if you don't want to watch it, change the channel, or better yet, turn it off. -- Powerlink, your reason for dialup

and precisely what does selling what I presume you mean illegal narcotics have to do with a cable television company providing legal television channels to adults who are willing to spend their hard earned money to pay for them. Some people like that sort of entertainment, others prefer the bland formulae of old soaps and even older comedy shows. The inbreed narrow minded thoughts of bigots have already spoiled the network channels, I hope that the freedom of choice might be allowed in the rest of the entertainment industry. Complain as much as you want...I hope they match the number of complaints to the number of subscribers and let the majority win.

|
| | OK, With Adelphia Offering Adult Entertainment When I was with Adelphia in Miami, they offered Playboy. Maybe it has changed; but I don't see the big deal. Plenty of cable companies offer it now for a nightly fee. If they want to offer it at a premium fee, then what is the big deal. I agree HBO and Cinemax and Showtime offer just as bad, and I wouldn't say the wee hours. Sometimes I see X Rated shows listed at 11:00. That is wrong in my opinion, especially in the summer when alot of kids are up later.
Maybe Adelphia needs to change the timing of the programming, but I believe that is up to the individual channel. There is nothing wrong with offering Adult Entertainment. There is a simple rule to this: If you don't like it, then don't watch it. It isn't like every channel will be tuned to it. There are plenty of other channels with good, wholesome stuff on.
| | | Job 1 The only thing immoral would be not exploring additional sources of revenue. Thousands of employees, contractors and customers have a vested interest in Adelphia becoming a viable business. Getting Adelphia back on its feet is job 1 - how many objectionable programs can expose themselves on the head of a pin is irrelevant.
But if we were to draw up a list of programming to be deleted on "public well-being" grounds, I would be putting Rap "music", the various religious charlatans, the infomercial channels, anything showing gang sign language, and violent programming much higher on the delete list than whatever it is that offends the 700 Club. Ofc, the 700 Club itself would be high that list to begin with.

Kudos to Erkie for accepting this potential move, and as well as to the direction he's taking the company. As a stockholder, I don't care if they start showing porn or a 24 hour a day video feed of a church. As long as it generates revenue for the company, I say go for it.

comparing soul and porn... this is getting really off-track, but I don't mind. I like to think of religion in this manner. If someone wants to be a religious and keep to themselves, all good and great. When someone tries to press their religion upon me is where I have problems. When people tell me I'm going to hell and I'm going to burn for not being of their "correct religion," I tell them, "If you're going to heaven, send me the other direction, because there is no way I want to deal with billions of people just like you." So maybe by watching porn, I'll goto hell, but at least I won't have to deal with the religious fanatics. -- Problems with Adelphia in VA?Office of Consumer Affairs (OCA) 1-804-786-2042, then 1, then 0

And why is it sad? It is a completely legal, optional service. If they were just "turning it on" so it was available to anybody with cable, you might have a valid point. It is a service that has to be subscribed to, therefor you statement is invalid. I don't get into porn, but I don't believe that adults who wish to watch it in their own homes are "sad" at all!
Adelphia is in business to make money. It's not that "they feel they need to carry hardcore porn", it's that it's a huge cash machine just sitting there for the taking. Once again, you're being a little idealistic. I'm sure we all wish porn didn't exist, but it's legal and it's lucrative here in the real world. -- PowerStink is like a perpetual hangover!!
