Adelphia rate hikes

Well it looks like Adelphia is in a no win situation.
Boost rates loose subscribers to Sat.and keep on falling deeper into the hole.
I wish they would think of another way out..Im already paying to much for basic cable as it is,and I find it not that hard to pull the plug.

Maybe they could talk to Kmart Hey they went bankrupt a couple years ago ,know they own Sears

Basic TV package and non-subscription?

Do I assume this will affect those who have basic/lowest TV package and does not affect those who do not have cable TV (just HSI)? Am I correct?

Re: Basic TV package and non-subscription?

Judging from the story and what I have heard, Powerlink subscribers will not see a rate increase this time around. At least it has not been announced yet. We'll find out when the notice arrives in the bill.

Personally, depending on the amount of the increase, I'll have to weigh the cost of keeping the TV services with the HSI versus Satellite TV and the HSI. And the least expensive of the two shall win.

Weigh the cost of cable and DirecTV

I have been an Adelphia customer since July 04. I am very happy with Customer Service and Tech Support. If I call, they literally have someone at my house in hours but no longer then the next day.
I have had DirecTV since 1994, before they even had 1 million subscribers and the picture is fantastic. It beats Adelphias digital service, which is still blurry sometimes. Not to mention DirecTV is cheaper. I like Adelphia for the support, but the cost is starting to bother me, even with the cheaper "discount" with bundling, I figure I am paying 30 dollars more per month for much less channels and clarity then DirecTV.
I never took off the dish so if I decide to go back to DirecTV all I need to do is plug in the receiver, make a call and "BAM!" I am back to what I had before I even hang up. I like Adelphias HDTV, but I really need to weigh the costs and what happens if I upgrade to HDTV with DirecTV.
As I said, I am very impressed with what Adelphia has done, and is doing but I also need to think about my wallet too.

But I don't WANT a descrambler!

I've stuck with Adelphia for my TV programming because I HATE having to have a separate box for descrambling the digital signal for satellite. I have not gone to digital cable, because that requires a box. I love my wife, but she just doesn't understand the whole conglomeration of TV channel vs. cable box channel, vs. VCR channel thing. To me, a clearer picture is not worth upsetting her.

Last year, they stripped down basic cable to what you can get with an expensive UHF/VHF antenna, forcing those of us who paid $13/month to upgrade to $42/month to get back those channels lost. Yes, we picked up more channels by going to expanded basic, but in my home, we're essentially paying almost $30 a month more to get back the Weather Channel.

I don't know at what point the cable companies will stop offering analog channels, but until then, for the peace of my household, that is what I have to stick with. They keep raising rates, and we have nowhere else to go, without having to go with a converter box.

Re: But I don't WANT a descrambler!

Don't quote me here but I read nothing of de-scrambler. Only reason I see in my mind for rate hikes is HDTV required from FCC someday.

I'm already reading more books. How about you?

Same old story with Adelphia

I am really starting to lose my patience with Adelphia! I think it is quite funny that they justify the price increases because "there is growing demand for digital cable with its expanded channel offerings and services" - total BS I say!

You know what, I didn't want my digital service to begin with, but had no choice because Adelphia says it will charge me a higher rate for HSI if I am not in a so called "advantage pack" that has digital cable.

Adelphia is shoving its digital services onto people so that it DOES have a reason to justify rate hikes. I am completely fine with analog channels and I even have an HDTV. Just because I can get HD/digital channels doesn't mean I want it! The only thing that going to digital service did for me was give me hundreds of additional channels that are pretty much worthless.

I am so sick of Adelphia holding a monopoly on cable (for both HSI and TV) in my area. I can only hope that when TW takes them over in my area (which unfortunately is still at least a year away) that there will FINALLY be some relief for us, the consumers. I told an Adelphia rep once that I thought their prices were starting to get out of hand and that if it ever came to me having to choose a service to cut in an effort to stop the bleeding from my wallet that their service would be the first... looks like I may have to make good on that statement before too long.
