Adelphia to Deploy 25,000 Moxi Boxes in 2004

Market Trial of Moxi Service with Integrated DVR and HDTV
Slated to Begin During First Half, 2004

KIRKLAND, Wash., Jan. 7 /PRNewswire/ -- Digeo, Inc., a leading provider of media center software and iTV services, today announced that Adelphia Communications Corporation, the nation's fifth-largest cable television company, plans for a field trial of Digeo's Moxi(TM) Media Center Service during the first half of 2004 in selected markets in the greater Los Angeles, Calif. region. Following a successful trial, Adelphia plans to deploy 25,000 Moxi-powered Media Centers during 2004.

"We are very excited to introduce the Moxi home entertainment system at Adelphia," said Doug Ike, vice president, advanced video engineering and development at Adelphia. "Historically, the cable industry has had few choices in deploying innovative products and Digeo is uniquely positioned to provide a product that is functionally rich and graphically entertaining. We believe
that dual-tuner, high-definition DVR systems, like Moxi, are essential in the increasingly competitive marketplace."

The Moxi software platform, designed to power the new generation of media centers, enables cable operators to deliver popular services such as DVR, HDTV, and integrated VOD and PPV through a single set-top with one unified menu and remote control. Designed to be extensible, the Moxi software platform also provides cable operators with a powerful vehicle for adding new revenue-generating services in the future such as music jukebox, games, photos, home networking and two-TV access.

"The Los Angeles trial provides a great opportunity to demonstrate how powerful Moxi can be in transforming the digital cable experience especially in such a high profile market for Adelphia," said Jim Billmaier, chief executive of Digeo. "We're committed to helping forward-thinking cable operators like Adelphia deliver services that consumers can't live without, and satellite can't replicate and we're confident that this approach will be a win-win for both operators and consumers alike."

In July 2003, Digeo announced that Charter Communications had placed an order for 100,000 Moxi-powered media centers. The service is currently in market trials in Rochester, Minn.

Too bad they don't use TiVo

Too bad Adelphia couldn't partner with TiVo, I've yet to see any DVR on the market compare to TiVo's features, intuitiveness and overall complete ease of use. TiVo rocks!

Re: Too bad they don't use TiVo

Yes it does! I love my DirecDVR with Tivo, it has really changed the way I watch tv. I am so used to the pause and rewind feature, I keep having to catch myself before I ask my parents to rewind something we're watching on their regular directv receiver, I'm that used to it! lol

Re: Too bad they don't use TiVo

My model? No, but they are coming out this year, as well as a direcdvr with a built in DVD recorder (they already have standalone TIVO units with the DVD recorders built in out in stores), we don't have an HDTV, so it wouldn't do any good right now for us, we can, however, watch 18 crystal clear, 100% digital local channels from SF, Oakland and San Jose PLUS 2 out of area network feeds from LA and 2 from NYC, vs. Adelphia's 8 snowy, fuzzy and lousy locals on their digital cable here

The DirecTV HD-DVR powered by TiVo will be out this quarter, it's on display at CES in Vegas this week. It will have four tuners, 2 Satellite and 2 OTA. It will be able to record both HD and non-HD content from DirecTV. It will be able to record on up to two of the tuners at once, and still play back existing recordings. It also has two USB ports for future use. It comes with a 250 GB hard disk.

The downside is it is expected to be kind of pricey, current MSRP around $995. We'll have to wait and see what the street price is.
