FCC Chairman Kevin Martin’s attempts to force cable companies to switch to an “a la carte” model of offering cable channels have been opposed by a number of groups including members of his own party. The New York Times has an article today breaking down the reasons why “a la carte” cable is a bad idea for consumers. Calling it a ‘be careful what you wish for’ situation, the author warns that a number of channels would end up going out of business which would offer consumers less programming options. Additionally, the article shows how prices on most people’s cable bills would rise instead of decrease.
