Another Executive Leaves Cablevision
As Company Sees Significant Management Shake Up
by Karl Bode 08:49AM Friday Mar 09 2012
With the resignation of two top Cablevision executives in two weeks last December (including COO Tom Rutledge, who left to become Charter CEO), the rumor mill started to churn with rumblings that Cablevision could be looking to sell. Now another Cablevision executive has left the company. Jonathan Hargis, executive vice president of marketing, is resigning and will leave the company later this month "to pursue other opportunities." Again, analyst speculation is that Cablevision is shaking up the ranks ahead of yet another Dolan attempt to take the company private, or they're preparing to sell their properties. Time Warner Cable has long been a rumored buyer, but the deal never seems to materialize.

Re:

I heard Verizon is buying them and then the Triple play will have a slight price bump. $400 a month (that's for each of the 3 services you bundle)

You ignore the other GRAY meat...

2 options:
take the company private again (interest rates just about as low as they go... aka iron is HOT!)

the other option.. cablevision grows some balls and upgrades to FTTP jettisoning docsis for a broadband war!
more likely the first, but you never know.. imagine Cablevision offering hundreds of megabits for dirt cheap pricees.. completely kicking the rest of their partner cable companies in the balls because they'd be on the hook for doing better than they do..

Sitting on Pins and Needles

I hope it is just a management shakeup and not a sale to TWC. We can all kiss our wonderful Optimum Online goodbye if TWC takes over. Usage caps and rising prices are the future in that scenario. Unlimited FiOS and Optimum Online is about the only advantage to living in this high tax area called Long Island.

Doubtful with fios in the area that OOL would ever be capped no matter who owns them[well until verizon institutes caps that is]

I never understood what the big deal about losing these executives is. Listen, the majority of executives that leave can be replaced easily unless they have special technical knowledge or he/she is Steve Jobs.

The next guy below is probably just as capable or could do even a better job.

hmm

Who said this means sell? I think this could be a good thing. Maybe we can get better guide software now and some much needed changes.

Re: hmm

You think the problem is the guide software !? Take up a collection to upgrade 5,000,000 1990 set tops.

analog set-tops were in use until early 2000s when analog had ended their slow death about 2005.

Hopefully they are just going private

Hopefully they are just going private or this is just your typical people coming and going. A TWC deal worries me.

The heat is on

Execs leaving, Dolan taking control, funny how all of this happens AFTER a union is knocking at their door. CWA is already in the Brooklyn operations of cablevision, and is not far away from being in the entire company. Maybe now the employees that actually make this company operate will be treated like human beings instead of a number. That would also mean that they would get paid what the competing companies pay their workers, which is twice what cablevision pays its workers. With all these execs leaving, they certainly have the money to do just that now.

Re: The heat is on

More likely James is pissed about the whole FCC report last year and is trying to get things back in shape.

Also, your salary information is way off base, but that's typical union propaganda.

About Cablevision throttling speeds from 15 megabits down to 5? If they're gonna sell a 15 megabit tier for $29.95, then it should be 15 megabits a MAJORITY of the 24/7/30 days you pay for it! Verizon FIOS runs rings around a throttled service which the FCC finally called it like they saw it.. the real deal is they have to SPEND MONEY to split nodes where necessary and run more fiber optics. Competing in NY Metro costs money and you can't slide by just by having cheaper prices.

From what I've experienced at one customer's home out on eastern LI, they did raise the speeds, they now hover btw 10 and 18 (NO WAY are they getting 20 as "advertised")megabits down, but unexpectedly throttled the 2 - 2.1 megabits UPLOAD to about 1.6??!
