Great timing eh?

Is it just me or is this just bad timing on the part of Apple? Haven't they seen the sales figures for computers lately? Now that everyone and their dog has their own pc, I hardly think that there's going to be a rush of people going out to their new retail outlets to buy up all of their machines.
Wish 'em luck.

Re: Great timing eh?

Might be good timing in the end. We're climbing out of the bell curve on PC purchasing. Everyone who bought a PC 2 years ago during the flock of cheap P2's and P3's will be looking during the next year. They're just preparing for this.

Stupid Jobs needs to realize though that the gaming market is a HUGE one. It's kind of a sad statistic....but there are MANY PC owners who buy that 3000 rig mainly to game.

Showing up at E3 would be a start....although I am pleased that they ditched the ATI crap and went NVidia. Now they just need more than 2 titles a month for the green boxes of doom.....

I hear rumors that the GF3 chip will debut on Apple computers first. I have not been able to confirm or deny this...

Re: Great timing eh?

It will. nVidia is having problems with getting enough chips for the cards, that's why you haven't seen them yet.

About the Apple stores- I think it's a wonderful idea. it's obvious, not to mention humerous when PC users start taking needless cracks at Apple. What you have to understand is the Macintosh is a niche machine, much like SGI (and I'm not comparing the two performance wise.. each has its place). Macintosh has always been synonymous with creativity, therefore it has been widely accepted by creative professionals and the like- the like being those who enjoy integrating art and technology into their lives. Let's take audio and video editing/production. What do you usually see next to the SGI O2's? Power Macs.

Re: Great timing eh?

I know all the usual stigma about the creative/design/audio hooplah, and that might have been true years ago, but now it's just another techno-geek war with no real merit.

I have nothing against Macs. But there's nothing they can do that a properly configured PC can't do as well.

I might even buy one. If the entire world wasn't made for PC.

It would be like me choosing to be left handed at birth. It'd be cool, but I'd have to spend half-my time trying to find left handed scissors.

Re: Great timing eh?

You contradict yourself too much, Mother.

"I have nothing against Macs", then talking against Macs nonstop. Careful, your bias is showing.

I'm delighted to see the Mac stores. Maybe now they'll be tended by someone other than the snot-nosed kid at CompUSA who inevitably knows nothing about them.

Re: I think it's a great idea! :)

Me too... I want to walk into a store where the Macs are turned on and working, the software selection is actually being displayed, and the sales rep actually knows what the hell he/she's talking about. People have this ignorant idea that there's no software for the Mac, and while Best Buy doesn't care to stock it, it's very much available.

Gee sum phat macs

Congrats to Steve for this....has been a long-time coming. I'd even have expected them to best out gateway.

One thing that draws people to macs is their ease of use and now oft-copied curves. To be able to actually go and TOUCH a new titanium, and perhaps compare that to the Sony Vaio Magnesium-alloy, you'll appreciate the difference.

As a long time mac advocate at home, and PC user at work for the last 10 years, it's been quite horrific to live in a 2nd tier city (Lansing, MI) and not be able to even SEE an ibook, or a titanium, until they had been out forever. I pity the mac dealers who never got the corporate support they were promised - seems to me there are hundreds of them who are being swallowed as MACS are placed next to pc's at compusa with only a smattering of the available software and peripherals stocked.

Even MAC haters will be drawn into the stores. Who knows if anyone will buy any.
