Bell Canada presents new offer to Technicians (old news - 08:23PM Wednesday Jul 21 2004)
Today, CEP technicians became aware of a new offer from Bell Canada with significant improvements. Technicians will be voting on the new offer in the next three weeks, so for now the Strike has been postponed based on the outcome of the ratification. See link: »www.cep25.com/040720.htm

"much improved" offer
This new offer is much better than the first "final offer". In the history of the CEP vs. Bell or vice versa there have been very few instances of the company coming back with a second offer before the techs have "hit the bricks". Bell doesn't want the techs out when voice over IP is about to be introduced as this will revolutionize the telecommunications industry. The technicians will vote on this new deal and may accept it...I think they will. The technicians have been given a certain amount of "respect" by the company and that has a certain "weight" to it. The Union has recommended turning it down as the deal doesn't go far enough but for the most part it is palatable by most. In four years maybe more of the issues will be resolved but for now it is time to get back to work.
