| | Is there a reason? I have always noticed that a companies smaller data package cost almost as much as their bigger package. Even though the smaller package is about a 10th or smaller of the big package. At&ts' $15.00 dollar for 200mb to their $25.00 to 2gbs. Here 500mbs for 39.99 and 5gbs for 59.99. Does it cost the network more if you use less data? Not being sarcastic or anything, honestly I'm just curious. | |

It's well known that you don't purchase bandwidth in amounts of data but rather speed. Comcast is giving me a business connection of a pipe to the internet and it doesn't matter if I use 1KB or 1TB, costs both Comcast and me the same amount of money.
Now, since so many people can be on a tower at once - you need some way to make it fair for users. Carriers think that 5GB for $60 is the silver bullet, and in reality its not even close. That still means how many thousands can download 5GB at full speed at any given moment. Why not just offer unlimited and throttle the data to dial-up speeds after 5GB, that would make most sense to me ...and fair to everyone else. | |

| | | It is partly to encourage you to go to a bigger plan; but there're fixed costs that don't depend on how much bandwidth you use; eg billing, tech support, other back office activities, etc.
Apparently the whole backend cost structure is so convoluted that when one of the major US wireless carriers hired an outside team of economists they still weren't able to generally figure out which individual customers were making the company money and which were costing it. If you think about it that's not entirely surprising; towers out in the middle of nowhere probably don't have enough customers to directly cover their expenses; but the size of coverage maps plays an important roll in which provider customers partner with so some of those expenses should probably be counted as marketing; but how much of the total? | |

They had a table in the middle of the store where were selling Eee PCs for $9.99 each IIRC if you signed up for a two year wireless internet contract. I am not 100% sure that they were specifically selling Best Buy Connect as the signs were made by hand, but I assume it probably was that service that they were promoting. | |

They were being offered for 99 cents with a two year wireless commitment, I know of at least one Eee PC model that's on clearance now so the store is doing what it can to reduce inventory. Best Buy Mobile has a few advertisements popping up around the store for the Connect service but the Eee PC promotion was unrelated. | |

| BB & Speakeasy BestBuy wouldn't have that problemw with Speakeasy if they would have learned to put them under their control instead of acting like they were a totally different company and then claiming "we never heard of them, who are they again?" and yes Best Buy does say that and their Best buy for Business Department does the same thing.

Millenicom charges you a set up fee just to even use the unlimited service even if you use your own modem! If not it's 90 for the modem plus the activation fee. You don't see that on the capped service though. Talk about double dipping from Millenicom.
But then again I just got an email today from an old business partner about a new MNVO-E company starting to offer anyone access to the Sprint network to be their own provider- nationwide. All services fully unlimited and are about the average of nationwide prepaid now. Talk about more and more MNVO's popping up! Especially when the Andriod phones will be included!

| | Use a 4G phone instead for just $30/month All these data MVNOs are not adding any value. Just get an EVO or Epic phone with 3G/4G and pay just $30/month/unlimited to share as a WiFi hotspot. Also works with 3G roaming. Technically there is a way to do it 'free' with rooted phones but it violates TOS.
I don't think Clear/BB/TWC data MVNOs include roaming and cost more than Overdrive that does include roaming. EVO/Epic phones cost even less while still being truly unlimited and allows roaming.
I don't see this model working unless the MVNOs add some kind of unique value. | |

Can get 300Mb for $20 for 30 days.
Once again, no contract.
I use a netbook...and I gotta bust my butt to use 300Mb in 30 days. Yes, most of the time, I can use WiFi so the dongle is used where WiFi isn't available. Or, when Charter decides to take a dump.
Granted streaming Pandora, ect. will eat up more valuable Mb's(YouTube even more) with judicious use I can easily get thru 30 days.
Top-up? Easy with a credit/debit card. I hear Verizon wireless has a dongle you can get for $129 no contract. Even better as they have a much bigger footprint then Sprint/VirginMobile. | |

Subscribe through DataJack for $49.95 per month with 5Gb cap or Millenicom unlimited service, when Millenicom begins offering unlimited service again for $69.95 per month.
